Computer bluescreens after 5-15 minutes of playing
When running Iris + DH 2.0 my pc will eventually bluescreen, the exact error changes every time but they all seem to be ram related. I have tested without DH running and everything is fine, running with DH everything runs great, mod works as intended up until my computer just bluescreens. I have made sure to allocate more ram to the installation, first at 8 then bumping it up to 10, but this didn't seem to change anything.

Sounds like your computer as a whole is running out of memory. Can you monitor the ram usage in task manager and see if it’s filling up all the way until the computer crashes?
Take a picture of the error code next time it happens and search it up. If it’s memory related then you likely have faulty memory or you need to reseat the memory sticks.
This issue isn’t DH’s fault as your pc shouldn’t be blue-screening in the first place and you’d likely get the same problem if you stress tested your pc.
error code changes every time
Ok but what’s one of them
This was one of them
That one’s caused by messed up system files which could in turn be caused by bad drivers or bad memory
If the other error codes are memory related then it’s probably your memory
hmm
I did run a windows memory test and it didnt pop up with anything
I used to get that blue screen and it wasn’t memory related and the only way I was able to fix it was by completely reinstalling windows
It’ll probably have to happen a few more times to get a good idea of what’s causing it
Otherwise you’ll have to try random things until it gets fixed
Just going through my browser history I know another error is clock_watchdog_timeout
hasnt broken yet but task manager is showing memory usage constantly in the 90s
f3 menu is showing memory usage going up to 60% then dropping
also it may very well be some underlying problem with my computer but given that that programs hardly crash, let alone cause my pc to bluescreen, I would certainly say DH is applying stress to my system in a way nothing else has
having had the game open for a while and not moving too far from where I loaded in I have noticed that nothing has happed for a bit
It seems that moving from my spawn and loading more chunks did me in
yea minecraft heavily stresses both your memory and cpu
my pc would never bluescreen with the new memory i had bought but when loading up minecraft and flying around very fast it would bluescreen
the memory going up and then dropping is normal. As far as I know, using up all of your memory won't cause bluescreens unless there's some other issue with your computer.
well thats kinda why I'm surprised by this because even when running mc pumped full of mods and shaders with high render distance it would chug like heck but I never had any crashing problems, here on the other hand my game is running nice and smooth, solid 60 fps, then it freaks out
Did you allocate all of your memory to Minecraft?
By doing so, you are guaranteeing a blue screen sooner or later.
Only other thing I can think of is checking that your PSU is capable of the power draw from both CPU and GPU simultaneously.
By the way, somebody also experienced blue screening on their system trying out Distant Horizons + Iris. Their issue was having a riser cable.
Distant Horizons + Iris effectively became a stress-test type of benchmarking mod that revealed even the smallest of inconsistencies in hardware...
no, I have 16gb and I usually run mc at 8gb
idk atm but I'm pretty sure i have a 750w gold psu
running a 3080
so a bit of draw but I would think that would leave enough headroom
no riser cable here either
overheating??
no clue actually
whats a good tool to use to check temps
Hwinfo
ill do some more testing when I get the chance
ye
"IRQL not less or equal" usually refers either to driver or disk read error
"hypervisor error" I think might refer to memory hypervisor
how much total memory you have?
1) try to LOWER java allocaded one so your total system is <90%
2) do you trust the disk you have your minecraft on to not have much errors? is it the same as your OS drive? is it even an SSD?
3) it is a nice idea to run
SFC /SCANNOW
every so often as this is your "veryfy integrity of local files" but for windows
in general as hardester said, DH + Iris is very much a benchmark type load
hhigh usage on CPU, GPU, RAM and disk IOPS,
so it;s nothing to do with the mod directly, but rather something the mod bring out of your system that only cause a problem under high load
under normal circumstances Java is a sandbox, and cannot BSOD your system by doing wrong calculations. only if user allocated too much RAM, or very rarely when disk can't keep up with writes16gb
wdym by this exactly, just lower allocation to something like 4-6 gb?
to make your ram don't go over 90% usage
I do and it's an m.2 ssd with the OS on it
maybe I'm just not reading things properly but how would lowering allocation alleviate that
unless they're not referring to ram allocation
java will eat all the memory you give it
lowered ram to 6gb
task manager stayed below 90%
got another irql not less or equal error and now im running the scannow command to see if I can get anything out of that
:pepenotes:
fascinating
Well it ran well for a bit longer than usual but it still gave out
very weird
