Answer A 504 Gateway Timeout error when setting up Custom SMTP with Novu could indicate a problem with the network connection between Novu and your SMTP server, possibly due to incorrect configuration settings or network issues. Ensure you've correctly configured your SMTP settings in Novu, including the host, port, username, and password. Also, check your SMTP server's accessibility and that it's not blocking or restricting connections from Novu's IP addresses. If all configurations are correct and the issue persists, it might be helpful to consult your SMTP service provider or network administrator to investigate potential network or firewall-related issues that might be causing these timeouts. For more detailed guidance on setting up Custom SMTP with Novu, you can refer to the official documentation which outlines steps for creating a Custom SMTP integration, including specifying host, port, and authentication details (1) .

@Mandy As suggested by inkeep, incorrect credentials can be one of the main reason for timeout

@Pawan Jain My SMTP mail server doesn't require any authentication I am looking at the api container logs and it only says "Connection Timeout". Is there any other way that I can troubleshoot this? FYI, SMTP server is deployed by others in my organization and it is working in the past for my other applications. @Pawan Jain It turns out I didn't specify the correct port. Now I am getting a different error "Can't send mail - all recipients were rejected: 550 #5.1.0 Address rejected"

It appears that I need to turn off "Verify provider credentials" in order to successfully create an active Custom SMTP. I confirmed that the configuration works now. I can receive emails.
