What causes ice to be progressively more transparent the further away it is in a shader?
The problem is that the transparency does not carry over to Distant Horizons chunks so it looks a little odd and I'd like to turn it off.

or perhaps it is carrying over but there is nothing behind the transparent blocks to be rendered...??

Overdraw prevention, a feature implemented in shaders to blend in real chunks with lods to create a seamless blend, or so it seems.
Since it's based on shaders, you should report this to the shaders author, some can be found in #dh-shader-testing.
