After installing, I click play and it does as usual but it doesn’t load into the game menu. Does anyone know how to fix?

Interesting, someone else had a very similar issue to you. I seem to remember they switched to fabric and got it working. My recommendation for you is to try allocating more ram
There is also a test which is just to create a new forge instance, download the newest version of distant horizons for forge and your minecraft version, and use no other mods whatsoever, just to test that the problem is definitely distant horizons

And the solution I found is deleting the "Config" folder from the .minecraft
