Visual glitches and "poor" performance
First of all, using a 4090 and 7800x3D with 64GB of RAM. I also used the installer to install everything for Minecraft v1.20.4.
I'm getting roughly 75-80ish FPS, which isn't a big deal, but I honestly expected a lot more out of my machine. Also using only 12 render and sim distance, with 128 LOD on Distant Horizons.
However, my main issue is with some of the visual bugs I'm seeing.
First pic I've attached is the leaf bug, where I'm seeing weird striping and lines in the distant leaves.
Second pic I've attached shows what I see whenever I try to go underground.
Visually, everything else looks great.
Yes, I'm on the latest drivers. Yes, I've restarted my PC after installing everything. Only other mod I'm using is the Tectonic datapack for world gen. No other datapacks, mods, or resource packs are in use.

i have the same setup as you and yeah also getting around 70ish fps :thumbsupanis:
playing on 4k tho so not sure about you
I'm on 3820x1600 res which might be part of the performance issue. Performance is playable, so I don't mind that as much, but the visual bugs, especially underground, make it unplayable.
yeah i have none of those bugs
oly thing is that water lods have a seam when i reload a saved world
but starting a new world has no seam
i still have a seam when i clear the cached lods
do you still have the artifacts with the shader enabled?
Also some distant rendering "lines" that aren't just in the leaves.
And let me test without shaders real quick.
Yeah all visual bugs are related to the shader in some way, after testing with it off.
I'm using the Bliss-Shader-DH.zip that came with the installer.
Okay realized the underground bug has something to do with Ambient Occlusion and the SSS_SSAO Denoiser. Still haven't found any settings that resolves the issue without introducing other bugs.
try the latest one from the repo

Just tried it and still have both bugs 😦
Not sure about the bugs but what’s your gpu usage? There was some other thread where someone was saying their gpu usage was much lower with a newer version of the iris beta
just adding onto this, tried the newest beta and having the same issue here. Very strange, since the latest 1.20.4 alpha for iris works totally fine on my rig
I'm thinking of trying the 1.20.1 build and seeing if that fixes my issues
It looks to be around 100%
That’s weird
Did you use f3 to measure it or something else?
Just F3
If you have Nvidia GeForce experience use the built-in overlay bc f3 isn’t reliable
And make sure your gpu clock speeds and temps are normal
Ah okay I'll check it out. Currently trying 1.20.1 build
Dang same problems with 1.20.1. And yeah nvidia overlay is showing 94-100% GPU utilization too.
At what clock speeds?
2700 GPU clock, 10.5k mem clock
How likely this is a sign of bad VRAM in your graphics card?
unlikely. i play tons of other game with no issues and average 4090 performance.
Is this an FE card or AIB?
GIGABYTE 4090 Gaming OC
Just ran the same benchmark as this guy: https://youtu.be/WtyTHJAo0t4?si=fnS8Z84Ro8xU4Pe2&t=238 with my same monitor res and setup and got 54fps vs his 54fps. I don't think this is a GPU memory issue

i'm also not seeing any weird artifacting in any other games.
- Does this artifact appears without Distant Horizons installed or enabled?
- Does this artifact appears with shaders disabled?
- Does this artifact appears with other shaders?
1 - Artifacts are there with Distant Horizons disabled, but the shader enabled
2 - All artifacts (both the leaf/distant terrain line artifact and the underground ambient occlusion artifact) disappear when I disable the Bliss shader
3 - What other shaders does Distant Horizons support? I'll test asap.
Since test number 1 still returns visual artifacts, GPU issue is more likely than before. Next test is to test in pure vanilla. If it still happens, then it is confirmed a GPU issue.
since I can rule out Distant Horizons causing the issue, I've tried BSL and Sildur's Vibrant Extreme shaders and neither produce any artifacting whatsoever.
seems to be specifically only a problem with the Bliss shaders.
Seems like you updated point number 1, rendering my text completely irrelevant.
sorry tried to get it updated before u replied
Since it's exclusively Bliss shaders related, feel free to file a report in #Bliss, showing the artifacts at play.
okay thanks
Someone on the DH server said the latest Nvidia driver was ruining their performance so if you updated recently maybe try rolling it back
