My horizon isn't distant
Hey hey,
I've tried installing Distant Horizons both with and without Optifine. I do see LODs being generated, but not any further away than whatever my default minecraft render distance is.
Have I misunderstood something? Should I have Optifine enabled at max render distance to get the most out of it?
I tried launching the game and waited over 15 minutes on multiple attempts.
(game tends to crash if I press F3)
Thank you in advance!

Do you mean that LOD chunks appear, but only after you generated them with your normal renderdistance?
Yes, but I am unsure if I have misunderstood how the mod works. Will it only generate LODs as far as my "normal" minecraft render distance is set to?
No, as far as its set in the settings
Are you on single or multiplayer
Singleplayer, just testing it out trying to get it working for me :)
It loads the LODs first, but when the regular render catches up the LODs disappear
Any other mods youre using?
LODs use minecraft's worldgen under the hood. it's quite slow when generating for the first time
Only DH :)
Ahh! How far can I expect it to render within, say 5-10 min?
reduce your vanilla render distance back down a bit (most use 8 to 12) and just let it rip
depends on your cpu
for reference, on my i5-11300H it takes a couple hours to fully generate 256 LODs
if c2me is available on forge, you can add that to speed up worldgen considerably (but take note of https://discord.com/channels/881614130614767666/1035937813310484540/1201688046110785556 first)
Ahhh fair! I mean after lowering it to 16 chunks I can see that there are LODs after those 16 now
there's also a bug where distant generation will get stuck on 2.0.1. consider switching to the nightly from #links-n-downloads
(still happens on the nightly, but it's far less common)
Oooh cool! Will try that out
Any idea on what the furthest (common) distance people get it working is?
most run 128 or 256 from what i've seen
256 runs at about 200fps at 1080p medium on my rtx3050 mobile
That is the LOD Render Distance Radius?
yes
ah thats cool!
So a bit ambitious that I put it to 600 I hear lmao
depends really
if your hardware's good enough you can run 600 no problem
/lodstored
quick sidenote, when upgrading to the nightly, you might need to delete the LODs first (water was borked on 2.0.1)

Ahh awesome! Will play around with it for a bit, thank you for the assistance 😁
no problem 🙂
Creating a new world would accomplish the same right?
yes
Solution
Awesome 😃
