Terrain not generating consistently
Any idea why this might be happening? I've got no error reports, my cpu is sitting at a steady 10% usage (7800X3D) and is set to paid for whole cpu, viewing distance is only 512 and render is 32.. shadows and sim are at like 8 and it just renders all funky.

The version of the mod you are on, as well as your ram settings and usage while this happens, would be helpful to understand the issue better
If you're on 2.0.1, try the nightly from #links-n-downloads
Delete your LODs after switching
/lodstored
Single Player:
- Overworld:
.minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- Nether: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM-1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- End: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIM1/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
- Custom Dimensions: .minecraft/saves/WORLD_NAME/DIMENSION_FOLDER/data/DistantHorizons.sqlite
Multiplayer:
- .minecraft/Distant_Horizons_server_data/SERVER_NAME/
ram is set to 25gb+ and 6000mhz
ill try the nightly thing
would i have to delete the lods server side too
i tried on both server and single player, same issue
DH can't be installed on a server if that's what you mean
Also 25gb is way too much
oh yeah true
I set it to that so it has high headroom
I use a modpack so
If you're doing 512 LODs or below 8gb should be enough
This will lead to really bad stutters
I'll try lower ram then
Since you're on a modpack try like 12gb maybe
huh? you sure about this? in my experience distant horizons has somehow managed to use RAM outside of minecraft's allocated amount sometimes 💀
-Xmx is for heap only
DH uses a lot of offheap memory
ah actually never mind I remember what caused that for me
I was previously on GDLauncher's old version
switching to the new release must have changed the offheap settings too
https://www.azul.com/blog/what-is-java-heap-size/#:~:text=The%20Java%20heap%20is%20the,as%20the%20application%20is%20running Seems like a good resource
Azul | Better Java Performance, Superior Java Support
What is Java Heap Space?
The Java heap is the area of memory used to store objects instantiated by applications running on the JVM. When the JVM is started, heap memory is created
yeah I get it, just mind borked for a bit 👍
Alright
thats a loooot better
my cpu spiked at 100% a few times but thats what the x3d is made for
and ram goes up and down a lot between 20% and maybe 50%
alright, that's very good! I'll mark the suggestion to switch to nightly as the solution to this thread then
this ss is on server too
I just deleted the server lod as instructed, worked fine
wait I can't lol nvm wait for someone with rights to
I know that the missing chunks on the sides are lack of loaded in chunks but
not sure how to fix that on a server other than flying around
could chunky work server side?
thats what i use on singleplayer
if chunky is installed on the server, then absolutely
ill have to try figure it out now
it also requires op permissions or use from the server console
yeah im op
how wide should i make the radius
not really intending to venture too far out from the 2 cities, and my lods set to 512 so
not sure how thatd translate with chunky
the chunky radius is in blocks, which is very important to remember
so your desired chunk radius multiplied by 16 is the radius you should set in chunky
and since distant horizons loads in a square, you probably want the shape to be square too in chunky
make sure to center the generation on the center of the area you want generated before using /chunky start
and that should be everything
so if my lod is set to 512
thats 512 chunks right?
so it would be 512 x 16
that is how I remember it working
if you want to be absolutely sure, google is your friend
i started it lol
and chunky can be reaally slow depending on your hardware, since in normal play you will never generate so many chunks in a short amount of time
should be fine
set to about 8k x and z
nobody is on server rn so
not an issue really
do you think i should reset lods again or will that make me have to redo chunky
like this
it is not a requirement
chunky generation is permanent and saved to the minecraft world save, not LODs
then ill leave it, i intend to take a break from minecraft today as ive spent 3 days trying to build a gothic cathedral, which is good timing as chunky reckon 4 hours so
thanks for your help, ill be back here if it doesn't work 😛
oh 1 last thing, so that i dont have to set lod over 512, what would a recommended curvature be? feel like having a curved minecraft world would look nicer to the eyes than having it just cut off after 512
it is very easy to try out yourself, since simply changing the setting updates the curvature visible through the background of the menu. something like 1000 or 2000 is a good start. It's much easier to notice somewhere like the end, maybe nether too
I'll do that, thanks
