JAR file saves as chrome file
Hello! I have Minecraft already installed. I was attempting to install Iris to then use the AstraLex shaders, however when I click on "Download Universal JAR" it doesn't save it as a file, rather as a Google Chrome link. I don't know how to fix this. Any help? My computer runs on Windows 10.

You need to install Java and run it with that
I do have Java, could you please elaborate? Do I need to open the launcher?
Run jarfix then
Jarfix
Jarfix fixes the jar file association on Windows
Okay, now should I run Java on Jarfix and then try and save the Iris file again?
Just run jarfix. It will fix the problem you have
Then run the installer
Anytime I try and open Jarfix it tells me to download Java. I clicked on Download. Now I should just run the launcher?
Wait hold on. Do you have a minute to call so I can screenshare? I am getting lost here ^^'
I cannot do that
Also, I did download Java, like 5 times now
Did you install it
As in did you run the Java installer
It should be an exe file
It says successful
Okay
Now?
Then just run the Iris installer with Java
How do I do that?
If you can’t, again, run jarfix
It fixes the issue of jar files trying to open with the wrong application
It crashes. I'll try running Jarfix again
This is supposed to happen, right?
Yes
Okay, what do I do now? (Also thank you so much for helping, I know I'm slow ^^')
Now just launch the Iris profile in the launcher
What launcher? The Minecraft one?
Yes
Okay, hold on
And be sure to grab a shaderpack from https://modrinth.com/shaders to put in your shaderpacks folder
Modrinth

You can open that folder by going to options -> video settings -> shader packs -> open shaderpacks folder
So now I click on play?
Okay done that
Yes
Okay, now what do I do? Do I just play normally on my server?
Yep just enable the shaders you want in video settings and play like you normally would
Okay, thank you so so much! I'll be back in a couple minutes to tell you if it worked
I assume it's normal for a huge server to lag like hell at first?
Depends on a wide range of factors, from hardware, to render distance, to resolution, to things in the scene
I play on a laptop
The shaders you use will also affect performance
Most have a profile you can change to properly tune the settings to get more performance or better quality, depending on what you need
I definitely need less lag. It lags so much I can't even move
Allocate more RAM
Or u might switch ur JRE to GraalVM
Mostly it depends on ur Laptop Specs
When first booting up any world, it is expected. Wait for a bit until it calms down. If it doesn't calm down after like 1 minute, try opening the F3 debug menu and take a screenshot of it.
