Wifi network found, but cant connect to internet
I just installed Bazzite on my Lenovo Legion Go for the first time. It can see my wifi network, but it doesn't connect. When I try to connect, it will first say 'configuring interface'. Then it will fail and I get the message "Wireless Interface (wlp1s0) The WiFi network could not be found'. Then it simply says "(Network name) Connection to 'network name' deactivated". It will then keep trying to connect repeatedly and give these error messages. Is there something I can do, short of formatting the drive and starting over with a new install?

new install should be no different by the very nature of immutable
have you tried restarting?
if you're dual booting, try a full shut down
I am dual booting. Full restarting as in using the shut down option, yes. Left it off for a few minutes before switching it back on.
that's very odd, could be some kind of DHCP issue?
shutdown option is the one that Windows uses for the fast startup stuff, could try restarting from Windows
Will try that.
Did not resolve it I'm afraid. If it's DHCP, it's not affecting the windows boot.
One thing I didn't mention is that on startup, it will once give the message 'Limited connectivity. This device appears to be connected to a network but is unable to reach the internet.'
I doubt it's connected to a network though. I doesn't say it is and pinging google doesn't go anywhere.
Definitely sounds like DHCP of some kind
Could try a static IP and see if that clears it
Alright, will try that. It's not something I do often. So I get the IP-adress, subnetmask, standard gateway and DNS and plug that into the Legion Go via the terminal in bazzite?
You can do it entirely from settings
Try the values windows is using
Much thanks to everyone helping me along.
I've been at this for a while now but I have to admit that doing something as seemingly simple as assigning a static IP address is, apparently, a bit over my head. The documentation that I find about Linux doesn't seem to cover Bazzite very well.
So, to check what I should do...
In the connection configuration, in the tab IPv4, I set method to manual. I set DNS servers to the DNS server my windows boot uses (which is different from my ISP DNS server, just in case). I leave search domain blanc. Then I click add and type in the IP address that windows boot was using. Netmask is filled in automaticly; couldn't find that on the windows boot. Gateway I leave empty, couldnt find that info in the windows boot either.
Obviously this doesn't work, though it's not obvious to me? What am I doing wrong?
Gateway is your router
Ie 192.168.86.2
Plopped that in there, not there yet.
So I have adress at 192.168.1.158, netmask at 255.255.255.0, gateway at 192.168.86.2.
IPv6 I haven't touched. All I could find was a "Link-local IPv6-adres that is too long to put in as an adress.
Should the MAC adress go somewhere?
That IE is an example
Yours sounds like it's probably 192.168.1.1
But your windows settings will confirm that
192.168.1.1 is the DNS server
IPv4 DNS server.
But I can see in the router settings that it's the LAN IP-address.
Guess I'm getting things mixed up
I've set both to 192.168.1.1. No liftoff yet.
Holy.... I just turned on my phone as a hotspot. Bazzite had no problems connecting to the internet through my phone...
Yeah, again DHCP
That at least confirmed it
Seems your router is not giving your device a properly configured/leased IP
And you wouldn't set both to that, just gateway
And that's assuming it's correct, you need to confirm what Windows is set to
Well I know what DNS windows is set to, I can easily find that in network settings - wifi. Can't find the gateway there yet, looking.
Confirmed gateway is same as DNS in windows. Booting back...
No joy. Let's see if resetting the router does anything good.
Still no good. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. I'll have to come back to this tomorrow.
If someone would be able to make a quick screen shot of what the wifi settings look like when set to a static IP, that would be most appreciated.
Also, does it matter what I do with IPv6? Or does it just fall back on IPv4 when IPv6 fails? Haven't touched it yet.
it'll fall back to ipv4
It works now! I don't know what went wrong but I deleted all wifi networks from its memory, hit the reset button, rebooted the router again and it just worked. Thanks for the help, at the very least I learned a lot about IP, DNS, DHCP, etc!
Extremely handy knowledge! Glad you got it working
