Why is it that Distant Horizons renders like this?
I'm running Distant Horizons from the Iris installation 1.20.4, not sure which Distant Horizons version I just see 0.15.7.
When I click 128 chunks on a singleplayer world, it only renders seemingly 64 chunks but not the full amount. (maybe it is 128 and it isn't as impressive since the wider the area the more chunks required to double the length)
It only increases to the desired chunk generation when I go there with my player and manually load in the chunks.
Is there an option in Distant Horizons I can enable to get the full desired chunk generation?
Does this require an external mod that preloads more chunks?
If you'll notice in the third picture it is obvious which chunks were loaded by default and which ones I loaded manually.
Could this be a ram bottle necking issue because I see stray chunks very far out which could be the size it was supposed to render at. There is one near the top middle, in the image taken from the tallest height.
(I can't say figure one because I can't label images, please implement that feature)

Chunk generation is slow, thats the fact of life
By manually visiting the area you may have ilusion of it being faster, but its only because you are going it on smaller scale
To see nice progress cubes you can enable the generation queue in debug wireframe section
Also lookimg and rings that are a bug in 2.0.2 you were rejoining the world multiple times its not helpful
I see
It’s fast for the first square of chunks but the rest just never load.
The closer chunks load in 10-20 seconds
The disparity is confusing
chunks not loading after a certain point is a known issue
try rejoining the world
@SoySauce (ㆆ_ㆆ ) use chunky mod to preload the area trust me it's worth it, it will take like 20 minutes but it is really worth jt
you will be able to experience the 256 chunks
Tried that
chunky too could be a good option
it defo is
Can I use chunky with the iris installation I used?
i had the same issue
Or does it have to be fabric?
Fabric and Iris
iris installer installs fabric i'm p sure
i think DH runs on fabric soo
drop chunky in
.minecraft/mods
yep
Thanks for the help everyone. I’ll get back to you later for updates.
I loaded 1000 blocks and it took 10 or so minutes
I might load the 4096 blocks another time
That's strange, it's still loading after the loading bar is finished.
Although with many bugs
I feel like chunky is worse with DH since it's so buggy
maybe that's because I set maximum horizontal resolution to 2 blocks
I see now, that's the generation of chunky, it just wasn't fully loaded in with DH yet
Not that great for 10-15 minutes of loading time
Yeah it's not amazing on my device
Significant chunk bugging with high resolution
I'm not sure if this is better than what I usually get without chunky
I'm not a fan of the shading glitches and ugly circle border cutoff from chunky chunks to DH chunks in the birds eye view photo.
maybe I should've selected /chunky shape square
Well, DH chunks seem to generate in a square-shaped pattern, so you might want to also made Chunky generate chunks in a square-shaped pattern as well. Also, based on the first image, it appears you generate chunks with Chunky a little too short compared to what the lods generated by Distant Horizons. You need to either increase the generation distance of Chunky or reduce the lod render distance of Distant Horizons so that it only covers finished chunks.
I thimk the bigger problem is that this circle generation makes dh discard a section and only add what chunky made
It does not appear to be the case with just visiting the area
So you're saying Chunky is overriding DH?
Visiting the area with that mod selection? What's the point of Chunky then?
I'm not a fan of the missing chunks and lighting glitches so maybe I'll try a DH and Chunky mod setup with a more powerful PC, not my laptop. I doubt that will remove the glitches though.
That was not my point
My question is why does AsianHalfSquat get such nice results?

It mostly comes down to focusing on one mod to generate chunks ahead of the other.
It looks flawless
what was it then?
good computer does generally equal better results
The reason why chunky works on the first place is it generates chunk updates... But why would it pretend some areas are void?
the way chunky does its generation is
uhuh
cause i tried making voxy ingest direct from chunky generation, but had serious issues with it
Oop the second video I sent (the 2 render distance one) is Farplane 2 which I believe is the inferior mod
yeah
As for lighting, I think there is setting to use DH lighting engine, which woukd make sense why chunky does not care about that step

I have to give credit to FarPlane2 with it's ridiculous render distances

30,000,000 Block Render Distance in Minecraft?!
This was done using an experimental mod called FarPlane2 which adds levels of detail to the game. Blocks thousands of blocks away from the player may just be rendered with 1 or 2 triangles, whereas blocks close up get the full amount. That lets the world generate pretty fast, and also helps with not exploding my computer, which I like!
Please n...
Maybe I just need to do some more configuring to optimise the two mods together
I see why FarPlane2 gets such render distances.
Imagine fabric compatibility
My suggestion:
- Force dh lighting, as chunky seems to not fare
- do not generate in circle as chunky batch generation will send chunk updates pretending that area is void
ok, I'll try that in the future
but square shape generation isn't going to fix the intermittent missing chunks
FP2 is just different. It heavilly uses cubic chunks for quick generation, and has technically amazing meshing
The known bug with 2.0.2 where dh won't save that it didn't yet finish the area?
I dont see an example in your screenshots so I'm guessing
godo in DH
