Decade Series: 2000s - Topic of the day 3/20/24
What do you think of 2000s fashion? Do you think of any styles/looks when you think of the 2000s? Do you take any inspiration from this decade? What were the decade-defining trends that you love and hate? This is an ongoing TOTD series going through the decades.

as someone who came of age yet was neither popular socially nor physically attractive i look back at the 2000s mostly in annoyance
I lived through this decade middle school to college. Since I have more familiarity with it I can say that there were a lot of smaller trends that came and went through the whole decade. But in general it was wide fits into the decade and skinny fits out of the decade.
Somewhat because I was in middle school at the time but baggy skater influenced clothes were popular early on
And hip hop styles
the resurgence of preppy style was all around my small town
Baggy jeans or cargo pants with basketball or skate shoes
also a lot of creative layering with t shirts lol
And then preppy revival in the mid 2000s
Short sleeve or polo over long sleeve t
The emo/goth/scene kids were the first I knew wearing skinny pants
the shift from baggy fit to skinny jeans was the first time i was conscious of a trend shift happening in real time especially since i was just then buying my own clothes
pretty sure the struggle for validation/social approval/self acceptance informed a lot of my clothing choices up until recently...
(even though oddly enough i dress similarly to how i did in middle school - oxfords, jeans, white sneakers, meme tees)
This was age 25-35 for me, which is a time in my life when fashion was absolutely not any sort of priority. I was still learning to adult, and trying to figure out how to have a life that I actually liked.
similarly, the 2000's are a blackhole of bad memories and bad photos for me :xd:
Me in 2007
man everything about this, the glasses style, the kokopelli graphic t, the camera, it takes me back
If any pic doesn't deserve a 🔥 emoji, it's that one.
Were u on the great wall?
Yes. I was working for Ticketmaster at the time, and we were developing the ticketing software for the Beijing olympics.
This was on a business trip to China. First time I flew business class, which forever ruined air travel for me.
Great Wall fit pic would go triple plat
Dawg you should recreate this fit again
Kokopelli tee and a bucket had would go hard with the right jeans and glasses and shoes
The 00s had, for me, the highest ever concentration of good runway shows (on the timeline of when we started documenting them well - present )
Even just the year 2000 for chalayan, galliano, and McQueen is basically the creme de la creme
Chalayan
Galliano
Mcqueen
Wow the clothing/furniture crossover is insane
😂
Two of my interests combined!
Jfarrell if you roll up to the fit battle in the Chalayan dress table you will officially break the server
Y'all hate all you want y2k revival hot rn. Short sleeves over long sleeves and big shorts cool
yea y2k is super hot and in
I just bought a pair of guess jeans lmao
and a razr
this is probably the most dominant style rn esp with grunge and distressed leathers coming back
Why did you buy a razr
Accessorize
Idk if I’ll ever have the same adrenaline rush as trying to T9 real quick on a razr held next to my leg when the AP Bio teacher turned to write something on the board
Y2K is on the way out, 2010s is coming in
These Levi's ads are seared into my brain from the 2000s, specifically the anti fit thing for some reason
although the fit on the guy furthest left is pretty standard for what I can remember wearing and seeing people wear when I was at school, especially the skater kids but probably with even bigger jncos
Also these belts
We were all T9 wizards. Whole texts without looking.
Until you reached your text limit
I’ll never forget the summer I got a girlfriend and I didn’t know texting wasn’t unlimited 😬
this is a weird one cause this is the decade i grew up in
but honestly, antwon's got me looking back at sportswear from the '00s, and now i'm like. kinda eager to get back into thrifting
Unless it was nights or weekends
