Attempting Forge Compatibility
Hello! I am attempting to use Iris in conjunction with Forge. I know there are some mods, like Sodium or Embeddium for Forge, that can try and mimic Iris, but I am hoping to try and make Iris compatible with Embeddium itself.
Would anyone happen to have any advice in regards to this? I really do like Iris and want to try to make it functional with Forge. I've been attempting to do so even with Sinytra Convertor, but it isn't very successful.

Iris is working on it’s own forge port
Currently there are no updated third party forks for forge
Sodium will be porting to neoforge in the future and iris will follow suit
And regarding sinytra, itle never work with allowing more advanced mods like iris or sodium to work on forge
I see. Well, that's awesome to hear they're working on a Forge port!
Hopefully this port will even be able to work with beta versions of Iris.
Have they discussed a possible ETA on this forge port?
Or is it still in the experimenting phases?
No eta
Not even in experimental phases yet
And I’m fairly certain beta builds will be fabric only but could be wrong
Oh, is it like a new announcement they made?
Also the main target is neoforge
It’s not announced
It’s just on the mission plan
Use Oculus, it works super well though an official one will likely be even better!

Oculus is no longer being maintained iirc
Oh really? That's a shame
it is ported to 1.20.4 or 2 as far as I know though so I could care less, 1.20.1 is the latest version I intend to use for a long time
I just know that in terms of performance, it's the best
I'm sort of attempting to simulate the new beta versions of Iris and DH in Forge, so I'm not super sure Oculus would be compatible.
Optifine has two things superior to iris, and they're minor:
64 chunk render distance built in
Dynamic lights built in
Otherwise Iris is far and away better on every other field. The chunk loading in particular is SOOOO much faster than with Optifine which takes ages to do anything.
Ooh I see
yeah you need to use the indev versions of both of those to get shaders working with LODs
Yeah, that's what I've seen. I've tried it out in normal Fabric, and it is phenomonal. Which is why I'm so intent on seeing if there's a way possible to convert it to Forge on my own lol
You could try.... hmmm... I honestly don't know if trying to modify Oculus itself to have the same system structure as the indev version of Iris is a good idea
but if you could use its framework to build a dupe of the current indev iris mod then you could probably make it work?
Both of the features mentioned can be gotten via other fabric mods
Idk about forge
Going out of my way to try and modify Oculus wouldn't be beneficial in the long run I think, especially with newer versions of Iris and such.
yeah probably
It wouldn’t even work likely
It’s heavily different between the versions
Not to mention the dh version of iris also includes major rewrites internally
Everything is reworked
I've used Distant Horizons in the past for Forge for a particular modpack, and it's been a wonderful addition, although we've always had to choose between it, or shaders. So with the recent improvements made, I'm really looking forward to trying to incorporate Iris with Forge. The Fabric version of Distant Horizons is compatible with Sinytra, so that's why I was holding out hope of finding a way lol.
I was able to use the beta fabric DH and made it work with Forge, so I was hoping to find a similar path for Iris.
Think the only reason it works with sinytra is because it already has compatibility with forge
That's probably it, yeah.
Currently we're using a combination of several mods and work arounds for this modpack of ours, and while it's already good, the bow on top would be having Iris ported/compatible with Forge. So here's to hoping it happens soon lol.

It's using alot of extra animation mods to enhance normal MC experience, and at this point, we've been using both Distant Horizons, and trying to use Iris separately in the past.
Remember the focuse is neoforge
