Terrible Extrusion Inconsistency On New V-core Build

Hi all - have look at my hilariously bad 50mm skew calibration print and let me know if you have any ideas what I should be looking at. Details: - V-core 3 500mm with Orbiter 1.5 + V6 Volcano + 0.8mm nozzle on EVA 2.4 - I've checked that I'm using the right extruder motor, in config was incorrect to start with but now good - Have calibrated extrusion length, seems to be all good - Did a couple cold pulls of the nozzle to make sure it was clear (ordered some more though, still feel like it could be this) - Printing PLA - dialling the temperature right down to 185 from 210 seems to have helped quite a bit with the gappy extrusion line I've been getting - After the first 5mm or so I turned off input shaping and retraction and dialled up extrusion factor to 180% - this meant I at least actually got a solid piece of material vs the 2nd photo of the previous print but still getting these crazy layer-to-layer inconsistencies Any ideas what to try next? The motion system seems to be running very smoothly but yet to see extrusion work well despite no skipped steps etc. Haven't done any real calibration as skew, input shaping, pressure advance etc. seem pointless until I can print something super simple at low speed

could be many different issues but appears to me to be under extrusion which can stem from flow rate (meaning not able to melt as fast as you are asking it to), nozzle blockage, reverse bowden etc. i am seeing breaks in the skirt as well which should not be, are you hearing any skipped steps from the extruder motor?

Thanks for your reply - I figured the same so I spent a few hours trying to remove all the different variables: Tried printing extremely slowly, removed the bowden completely, added a controller cooler so I could use the full power on the stepper drivers In the end it looks like it was the most stupid problem

This washer was on the wrong side of the extruder gear arm (it's fixed in the image) , so there was always 1mm+ of gap, preventing any pressure on the filament 🤦🏻‍♂️ Think it's all good now

yup good that you found it, but essentially if you have what looks like thin layers its skipping on the filament or cant push it hard enough, one of the two almost all the time, or a bad setting for thermistor. any which way glad you found it.

Yeah makes sense - thanks! 🙏🏻
