Skill issue?
How come youtubers with 3080s, playing in 4k and recording can get playable FPS at insane DH render distances WITH shaders?
Am I missing something? I have a 4090, playing at 1080p and not recording but I get an average of 40 FPS at render distances seemingly smaller than these youtubers...
Game version: 1.20.4
Mod list (Fabric):
(All mods are the latest available versions, I have made sure)
Nvidia drivers are all up to date, nothing wrong here.
No crash logs, just an FPS issue.
(I don't have millions of chrome tabs or anything insane going on in the background whilst playing)
(I am NOT using shaders as of right now)
DH render radius setting: 320
Vanilla render distance: 40~

For comparison
Youtube (a blissful day in minecraft || distant horizons 2.0 + iris)
According to the video description his specs are:
r9 5900x @4.35ghz (manual undervolt), rtx3080 10gb, 32gbs of ram @3200mhz
And then you have me
I feel like I'm definitely missing something here
Solution
your vanilla render distance looks pretty high
maybe turn it down to something like 12 or 16
Ok, that did something for sure, but idk if I'll have to increase the DH render distance now
And then that might start tanking my frames again
if distant generation is on and the cpu load preset is too high that might cause spikes as well
how much memory did you allocate?
Omg..
Wait...
my pc is way lower specs but i only have 8 chunk render and have DH at 512
I thought the DH chunks added ON to the vanilla render distance
Do the LODs technically start from your position?
yes
Ahh
That's why my frames were doodoo dogwater
Because it was technically rendering 50% of those chunks twice
lods are super cheap. bad frametimes were probably just from having to render 40 chunks at full detail
Yup 👍
do increase your memory allocation to at least 6gb. dh can be a memory hog at high render distances
(assuming it's at the default 2gb/4gb)
Yeah my memory allocation is at like 16GB rn lol
I was playing with a massive modpack beforehand 🤷♂️
that's a good amount yea
Thx tho, I will mark this as solved
