Key not working - damaged diode?
I put together a pre-soldered Corne today and there is exactly one key that doesn't register. I swapped switches to rule out a broken switch, and also tested continuity with a multimeter.
After flipping the board over, I noticed the diode doesn't have the usual black cover that says "T4". Could this be the reason for that one key not working? Is it something I can desolder and swap out?

You also may be able to just bridge that connection. I'm not sure if you'd have any ghosting issues if you were just missing that diode, but I'd have to double check
I've soldered some surface mount diodes before and can give desoldering and soldering a shot, but was wondering if that would void any sort of warranty/return possibility?
(I soldered a reviung41 by following Nick's stream on YouTube and have some extra diodes from that)
it wouldn't void any warranty 🙂
desoldering will be the hardest part since you have to heat up both sides to pull it off without ripping off one of the pads
so be careful with that part, use a hot air station if you have one, otherwise jump back and forth with your iron and lightly pull up with tweezers
And we've got a working keyboard!
Damaged diode was easy to take off... And the new one soldered in easily
Thanks for the help!
awesome!
