converted my terrain and road to static meshes from procedural...saved everything looked fine but when I reopened editor all was lost? All this at the very end of a project! Was their something that I should be aware off when turning procedural to static?

Sorry to hear! We don't have any control over your converted static meshes, so I can't see how we might have deleted it. Are you able to find it in this directory? Also, are you getting any errors in the output log when UE started?

Any errors? or something else odd you noticed? I wasn't able to reproduce this issue, and I know others run this command everyday without data loss, so anything on your end that you think might be the cause would be really helpful! Are you 10000% sure you saved?

...yeah I saved a thousand times cause it was yetserdays work so when I opened it to day ...gone...phewww...!!!! wait I have something in my folder....couldnt see the road and terrain too small ...when I convert it to mesh do the newly created static meshes get switched over automatically or do they just get placed in their folder?

btw, just to understand the order of operations: - you created a terrain. - you scattered stuff on it. - you converted the terrain to static. - saved, then reopened. - and it was gone? because if you scatter or create road on terrain, then convert it, the terrain will lose track of your road & scatters, because it has changed completely. But if you first create terrain, then convert it to static mesh, and then you start making the road, scatter etc... everything should be fine.

yes I created terrain - this is like a 10 day project so it was done some days ago - scattered, placed roads, assets etc...decided it was time to finalise and converted...I did this yeterday and everything looked fine as I continue to work throughout the day. On opening today terrain and road are gone from the map but seem to be in the folder. Mots of my scattering are done on dummy cubes so those were not affected but placing everything to fit is going to be hard! is there a way to know where the terrain (cordinate wise) it was created at....is at 0,0,0?

yeah by default the terrain is created at 0, 0, 0

and thanks for the details! The issue is that the scatters and everything lost track of your terrain when you converted it. We'll update the static mesh conversion so that it looks through all tools that used the procedural mesh, and replaces that with the static mesh, so that your tools still have access to the terrain. I don't think that will fix the issue of the terrain disappearing, as I have no idea how to reproduce that atm 😅 but it should fix some side issues you'd have faced anyways.

good luck to me! Thax for the help! also I feel my saved terrain has not kept my original scale I used...not 100% sure on this but something to check one more thing when you move the terrain via enetring numbers in the transforms it freezes and crashes before it completes it...but when you move via the transform its fine
