Sport jacket - keep?
I’ve just got this cashmere sport jacket for 15€. It needs multiple repairs, like replacing sleeve lining, small fix of body lining, but the outer fabric is without defects. I bought it because I liked the pattern and was curious about the cashmere. It’s very soft and quite light.
What I didn’t realize from the pictures, and I don’t really like is that it has strongly structured shoulders. I feel like the extended shoulder pad construction is intentional (as the jacket is my size and seems to fit me otherwise), but I’m not sure. They go past my shoulder line, as it’s probably visible in the first picture.
I’m wondering if I should keep the jacket and invest in the repair, dry clean cost or or donate/sell it. How do you think it fits with the current shoulders? Would it mess up the fit if I had the pads removed? How is the fit in general in your opinion?

Suit dorks may disagree with me but I think it looks good. I’d wear it with a collared shirt though. The fabric is a nice enough pattern that I’d probably just live with whatever I was unhappy about otherwise if it were me
Thanks! I’m curious about the suit dorks’ opinion, too 😄 the ‘waves’ - not sure about right word - in the back seem a little funky, but not sure if they’re just wrinkles due to being folded during shipping, or a fit problem.
Suit dork here. I think the shoulder has an "intentionally structured" look but that doesn't make it a bad fit, it's just the style of the jacket
Wrinkles in the back might come out if it rests on a hanger for a bit, or it might need a press
It's a good looking jacket and fits you well, wear with confidence (and a collared shirt)
Thanks! Curious if you say the collared shirt because of the style of the jacket or coz you’re against T-shirts under sport jackets in general. I sometimes like that look.
A t shirt under a blazer / sport coat can work but it's gotta be the right pieces for the job. This sport coat with the structured shoulders and gun club check pattern reads as classic British menswear, it's not the kind of jacket that will look good if you just throw on over a tee
As a suit dork, you might be able to answer a side question 😄 there are 3 labels inside the jacket. One is the fabric maker, one I guess the brand who made the jacket, but what’s the 3rd (Max Schmidt in this case)? The brand/store who sells it?
Yeah it could be. I don't know anything about Max Schmidt but my guess is it's a former clothing store or department store
steam it and it'll look great
