How do you feel about customized garments to your specifications (not traditional suiting)?
I was looking over at Small Talk Studio's offerings for customized garments and I've been feeling a little less enamoured with the idea of "boutique senior cords" that they and Bode have to offer.
For a while, it did seem like a grail to aspire to. A brand getting to recognize you, and what you provide for a brief moment, and displaying those parts of your life onto your own unique tapestry. But now, they just seem like random fragmented collages to me, no beginning no end, with little connects them but the buyer in question.
Had me wondering about what makes for a "good" custom garment. I'm not talking tailoring, but moreso a 1/1 piece that you commission a creator to make.
While I don't wear the jeans in image #1 anymore, I do have a fondness for them. They remind me of my first steps of getting into fashion, and I feel like I'll always have to hold onto them now that I recognize their place in my fashion journey.
My good friend Grant had a custom coat created from another Internet friend of ours who studies fashion out in Amsterdam (shoutout @janik_schnebel), and I feel like that it's something that doesn't present itself as much as a 1/1 unless you know the history behind these two guys and their friendship and their varying tastes.
So, you're probably thinking that the fact that customization is taking place within the garment's construction is what makes me like a custom job. Illustrations on a piece are what make it feel a little off or gimmicky, perhaps.
However, I feel that even this type of work can be handled correctly. I'm not the hugest fan of Jian de Leon from what I've seen, but it's clear that he understands clothes, and put together what is likely the most widely acclaimed Bode Senior Cord jacket to date. It's that understanding of how to make something thematic, something that feels it was designed by one mind but can be easily translated to others.
Is this what I'm in search of, for the buyer to convey a cogent idea? Or am I looking for the customizer to translate disparate ideas?
Either way, interested in MFA's thoughts on the matter, and especially in any pieces that you've commissioned or have made through commissions.

I find produced variety jackets and senior cords to be various levels of less cool than actual personal or vintage ones.
The super expensive Bode ones I just find cringe. Even if they look good, what’s the point?
I may be misunderstanding your post a bit tho
It's moreso about, what makes a garment cool or not if you're given customization options for it?
Ah I see! It feels very personal obviously and tough to nail down. I defer to Charlie:
If you have swag everything you wear looks good.
I do think a fairly universal unswag customization is trying to replicate a cool and unique item for less money
