low quality colors in OBS recordings
I've been trying to optimize my recording settings in OBS and it seems no matter what I change - File container, codec, bitrate, multipass etc, it always results in a degraded quality in color.
I've attached two photo examples -
one is from a recording done as .mov / NVENC HEVC / CBR 50000kbps / P7
The other was taken just using the snipping tool directly from the game.
I understand there's always going to be some degradation from compression but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to help with the colors.
Thanks in advance!

Aight uh
I've zoomed in on both of these side by side
used a color picker
I cannot see any difference here and neither can photoshop
I'm not sure what the problem is
but these are nearly identical images
the snip is more blocky because it uses lossy compression than the recording but
the colors are basically the same
I find its super noticable if you look at the pink icon on the top right action bar
this is barely noticeable
what you're probably seeing is the consequence of 4:2:0 chroma subsampling
which every video and stream will end up as anyway
so in terms of what you deliver to your viewer, you cannot do anything about
red is the first to get affected by chroma subsampling
but again, it's nearly imperceivable
Ok fair enough. I'll take that! Maybe I have vibrance or saturation too high on my monitor and its exaggerating the difference
Probs
But yeah your viewer will only ever get 4:2:0 so it’s fine
