"Limited Trial" for my new trial account
I am new to railway and registered a trail acct on the weekend to try it out. I got the "Limited Trial" message and it prevented me deploy any app including the sample app from railway. After waiting for a day, it remains the same. After reading doc and checking around. It seems the only option is to go with the hobby plan in order to proceed. My only concern is I have to give the credit card info.

unfortunately railway couldn’t verify you with just the information from your github account, you will need to provide a card and upgrade to the hobby plan
Hi Brody, thanks for the info. I guess it's the same with Heroku and some other hosting services. I wish those services including railway allow deploy a sample app provided by the vendor so that we at least can have a first look before giving the credit card info.
i can try my best to answer any questions you may have about the platform
thanks! Brody, really appreciate it! do you have sample app I can deploy just to see?
unfortunately the limited trial limits you to only be able to deploy databases
is there any specific information you where looking to find out from deploying a sample app?
i was about to try the hobby plan since I can still use the $5 credit with hobby plan if I read the info correctly.
the hobby plan will cost a minimum of 5$ a month, and it comes with 5$ in usage credit every month
I like the "pay-by-usage" model offered by Railway. I believe it makes more sense than the "free" plan.
Railway doesn’t have a free plan, the trial plan gives you a one time grant of 5$, once thats used your services stop and you would need to upgrade to hobby.
regardless of how you choose to pay (credit load or automatic payments) both the payment types for the hobby plan still cost 5$ a month, and both plans are still pay for the resources used (above the 5$ credit you get)
personally i would recommend going with the automatic payments, it is far less of a hassle than having to load credits yourself, and you can still set a max spend limit.
to be clear, neither payment type makes the cost cheaper
again, do you have some sample apps to deploy after my upgrading to hobby plan? https://railway.app/templates is the place to look for? are those templates paid to use? some other vendors have examples repos people can clone and deploy to have a quick feeling how the platform works.
you tell me what kind of app you would like to deploy and ill try to find you a fitting template, node and express? python and django?
the templates themselves are not paid, but you would pay for the resource used by the services that the templates deploy (if above the 5$ included usage)
django for now (laravel/php, node/express for the future).
here is a good template for django https://railway.app/template/AWUIv6
unfortunately our laravel template is outdated and does not deploy, so i cant provide a link for that
here is a very good template for node/express https://railway.app/template/Q4mMOs
thanks! the django one is good for now.
thanks for the help!
no problem!
Brody, one more question: if I encounter issue or have question, is discord the place to ask?
absolutely, we have a great community of people who can answer all sorts of questions
wonderful! can't wait to try the railway out. thanks again!
happy to help!
you made my day!
