Is the PCIe damaged?

My friends pc that shes had trouble with since she got it, it crashes everytime it’s under load is my guess and we think it’s cause she only has one stick of 16gb memory but then she sent me this photo of her pcie slot. Pc is pre built also.

That is a damaged pcie slot its out of the slot Looks like crushed pins on the right Assuming thats the top most slot of the motherboard

It’s a vertical adapter mount luckily
DiamondRyce
DiamondRyce12mo ago
Is that adapter required
JayDoubleUAye
JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
No, I assume it’s removable

My friend wants to know if the damaged pcie port would cause the freezing she’s been experiencing
DiamondRyce
DiamondRyce12mo ago
It potentially would assuming it won't fit normally
JayDoubleUAye

I mean it usually freezes when it goes under load, like from launching a game.

Then yes Should try without it

JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
Well her case doesn’t allow for horizontal mounting

Why not? I see plenty of pcie slots

Not even for testing purposes
JayDoubleUAye
JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
The horizontal slots are too short

What case is it?
JayDoubleUAye
JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
I would but my friend is skeptical about doing anything on the inside (even tho her mom already broke one of the pins on the pcie by poking it)

DiamondRyce12mo ago
That is a very dumb design. Lol Welp

Sounds like time for a new riser cable
DiamondRyce
DiamondRyce12mo ago
The only way then is to replace riser cable ^

Yeah I figured that much I was stumped why it was freezing until she showed me that photo I thought I’d ask here for a second opinion

What's the pcie connection on the actual gpu look like?
JayDoubleUAye
JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
But it terms of testing by plugging the gpu directly into the mobo, how would she secure the gpu? That connection looks intact
DiamondRyce
DiamondRyce12mo ago
Got legos anywhere? Start building a small wall up to the height of the gpu
JayDoubleUAye
JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
I do but I don’t think she does 😂
DiamondRyce
DiamondRyce12mo ago
Lay the case down on it side and have the gpu up

The display connections probably won't fit in the slots properly with those stupid short slots I'd say have her order a new riser cable and go touch grass for a few days or game on console or something

JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
I couldn’t tell ya but the pc is a cyber power i believe
AMD(rare) User
AMD(rare) User12mo ago
It's the hyte case
JayDoubleUAye
JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
Well she’s majorly console but me and are other friend begged and convinced her to switch side
DiamondRyce
DiamondRyce12mo ago
You can fit the gpu horizontally
AMD(rare) User
AMD(rare) User12mo ago
That was a knock on that one because you cannot mount gpu horizontal at all
DiamondRyce
DiamondRyce12mo ago
Just have to hold it or put the case on the side. No screw's etc Open end test bed in a sense
JayDoubleUAye
JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
I’ll tell her but I doubt she’ll do it lol
DiamondRyce
DiamondRyce12mo ago
The mom didn't pushed the pins on purpose right? Or you yourself don't have a pcie riser to lend
JayDoubleUAye
JayDoubleUAyeOP12mo ago
I don’t think she did it on purpose and no I don’t, she lives in another state from me
