First Pair of Grant Stones

Thinking about getting my first pair of Grant Stones. Love both of these colors (Burgundy Kudu & Color #8 Chromexel), but not sure if the #8 will be versatile enough. On the other-hand, not sure if the Burgundy will be too similar to a standard brown to justify getting. Thoughts or experience with either of these colors? https://www.grantstoneshoes.com/collections/boots/products/diesel-boot-color-8-chromexcel https://www.grantstoneshoes.com/collections/boots/products/pre-order-diesel-boot-dark-burgundy-kudu

Many find C8 to be very wearable — it’s a pretty good color that goes with most things, though if you’re new to boots in general I’d be wary of CXL. Great leather, but often creases more than people anticipate, especially if you’re looking for something “dressy”. Burgundy kudu is fairly brown, but can vary a bit batch to batch. I’d personally go for the kudu, if only because it’s a much more visually interesting leather

Both are great low-maintenance and casual leathers. I'm personally not a fan of color #8 unless it's shell. I prefer black or brown CXL but it's obviously still a v popular leather

I've got a pair of Chukkas in brown Kudu from Taft. Not looking for anything dressy with these, so I was actually hoping that they'd crease and look a bit more casual after breaking them in How does it being shell effect the color?

Shell isn't like typical leathers and won't take dye consistently. The result is generally a hide that has intense depth of color as well as variation. I find that color 8 looks really cool in this context, but on a plain leather it's basically just a shade of burgundy to me, and not a terribly interesting one at that. I'd prefer a darker black cherry color. https://www.tecovas.com/products/the-cooper

It's a perfectly fine color, just not one that I personally like on non-shell leathers

Garrison Boot Bronze Rough Suede
Tanned by Charles F. Stead in England, Bronze Rough Suede features a nappy finish, creating a rough and natural texture in a rich leather. This comfortable and chunky casual leather will have a wide range of nappiness to the suede. Due to the highly exaggerated and irregular nap of leather, variation should be expected

The kudu might be a bit close then, if that’s your concern. The C8 will definitely be dissimilar — but it’s really difficult to go wrong with any of GS’s boots
