Just got my first EK piece off eBay. Really wish I could talk myself into his prices because I really love everything I've seen.
same as ler, love how EK looks on other people but can't stomach the price tag, even secondhand
+1 on previous comments. Love the stuff but it's just outside the range of what I'd spend on casual wear.
Lmao I came in here to say the exact same thing as everyone else
I also feel like the best EK pieces are not that versatile, like you've really gotta go full EK to get the most out of them, so the barrier to entry is high
i think we can credit EK for the rise of smaller makers in the elevated workwear/americana space. brands like man-tle, james coward, henry’s (ie. blackbirdspyplane core) popped up after EK so gotta give credit where it’s due
i love their casentino wool, but it’s more geared towards colder climates. the sumi ink dyed canvas was also a standout fabric. i wish he brought back the woven ikats from 2017, that’s the only piece of his i still have
also fwiw the san francisco is an absolutely terrible city for being an independent business owner so he’s achieving the impossible with a physical storefront.
i'm curious which pieces you think are not versatile because my impression of EK is that he makes really wearable clothing, especially for people who would want to transition from basic workwear
I just think a lot of the sort of oversized look, e.g. his classic Big Shirt with the huge pockets is really part of a vibe and it can be hard to just slip it into your wardrobe
Sort of similar feeling about the very wide and cropped elastic pants
Not saying they're impossible to match to more basic items or whatever, just that they have a really distinct vibe imo
I think his pieces feel like they fit with the whole Neighbour/BBSP aesthetic. I think the reason people get so EK pilled is because of how nice it is and how well it works with the other pieces though too.
Look at me calling them 'pieces' lol who am I. Clothes.
And I more or less get the prices too. I think for me it's thinking of it like, 4-5 okay shirts vs 1-2 EK ones.
ah yeah i see what you're saying, some of his pieces certainly have that vibe
but he also makes very normal cuts, like his single pleat pants and four pockets could slot in easily to an every day wardrobe
his flat hem shirt is also fairly normal
i think he excels in creating a vibe / story around his collections. like his space in SF feels extremely specific to his voice as a maker which i think is what draws people in
I got a mandarin/collarless shirt I am excited to try and style into my wardrobe. A bit nicer or more formal that what I normally wear. It fits really well and feels great.
The only piece I have is a herringbone zip jacket I bought on a trip New York at CHCM. Although it was probably the most expensive item of clothing I’ve ever bought it is also my favourite jacket and il be wearing it for years to come
FWIW I found it pretty versatile and slots in really easily with the rest of my wardrobe
Yeah agree, looking through his collections I had forgotten how many pieces were more normie. Obviously the ones that stick out in my mind are the ones that have a little more vibe though 🙂
I love everything about EK and I like it more every day
I've almost picked something up roughly 100,000 times and as I continue to (try to) shrink my wardrobe, it's getting harder to resist
EK is a sick vibe and on my list of things I cannot afford right now, but plan to in the near future. Very lovely fabrics and cool silhouettes
