Gaming mode is extremely laggy on fresh install
Just installed bazzite/deck to a clean drive for a HTPC and the game mode navigation is extremely laggy when navigating the UI.
PC running 7900xtx and 7900 x3d
Any help/ explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, update. Kicking into desktop mode and back fixed it temporarily at least. Will update as I figure out more of what's going on.
try go to Steam --> power --> restart steam
its a bug i have noticed happen sometimes, not quite sure what causes it
That would work fine for desktop mode, but ideally as this is an HTPC, I would never have to drop into the mode.
Notably, rebooting the issue comes back every time. But kicking to desktop and back seems to fix it consistently
Really annoying, but I'll do more testing
If that only happens on reboot rather than sleep, then it's less of a deal
Sleeping and waking in game mode seems better than if I dona clean boot. Though there's still some kind of lag, albeit nowhere near as bad
Yea, so sleeping the computer breaks it, rebooting breaks it, the only thing that seems to fix it currently is dropping into the desktop, and going back to game mode
the steps i posted are for gamemode/gamescope-session
I don't see an option in the power menu to restart steam. Only to restart the whole machine.
The options are sleep, shutdown, restart, change account, switch to desktop, and cancel.
Notably switching to the steam deck beta client seems to have fixed it and pressits while rebooting
The same slight slowdown is still persistent after waking from sleep however
Even on the beta client
Actually strike that because the beta client wakes by itself immediately after sleeping, so that's a no go anyway
oh restart steam might only be available when developer mode is turned on in steam settings
if steamdeck beta client works then its a valve issue that we cant fix (in terms of the interface lag)
no idea about the sleep though.
Interesting, kicking back to stable client and rebooting seems to have it fixed as well now.
Maybe it is inconsistent like you mentioned
Yea, the sleep thing is probably not related
It's slower, but not even close to the slowness I was seeing
Fick, yea sleep is now just broken from what I can tell.
But as you said, restarting steam using the developer mode options restart seems to fix the lag weirdness
Which is good, but certainly not ideal
ok then that part is the same issue at least
100%
next time it happens on my htpc i am going to ssh into it and prod around to see if there is anything trackable i can spot
The other things I'm guessing are unrelated
i tend to not sleep my systems as i have never had it consistently work on any hardware or os, unless its for short sleeps otherwise i waste more time with sleep not working than just booting the pc 😛
i will test sleep next time i am on my htpc though
see if it happens to me too
Sleep is a requirement as far as I'm concerned
Though I agree that sleeping with a game running has always been hit or miss
Okay, interesting
Sleeping from desktop mode works as expected
Sleeping from game mode (no game running) works fine after dropping to the desktop then going back to game mode
The reason sleep is required btw is because I mostly rely on HDMI cec to choose my input for me, so I don't have to fiddle with anything
Leaving the machine on will just always attempt to pull focus
ah
Mmhmm k, I'm just gonna assume that this isn't being inconsistent and that I just didn't notice
Sleep only works if I boot to desktop once, then back to gamemode. Then it seems to mostly work fine
My intuition is telling me that it's solaar the open source (not) Logitech software that's always running when I switch to desktop mode. I installed it at setup as per bazzite's sugtested programs.
I have no evidence to back that up, but it's just a guess
Thankfully, if I never have to reboot, it'll be a non issue
Still super odd
I may try uninstalling it because afaik, it's not really necessary
it is probably a bug with game mode so using steamos probably won't fix it
havent had it happen on steamos yet though, but it is a bit unpredictable hence why i havent been able to track anything down yet after i noticed restarting steam in gamescope session fixes it
