would wool twill be useful for the same purposes as wool flannel (a bit more casual winter trousers)?

so it's either a whipcord twill or cavalry twill? Also is there any downside to buying very old pants (tho they are new with tag)? The seller says these are from 50-60s. Like would they be able to take in the waist a bit on these?

It does have a wooly finish like a serge twill tho the diagonal lines seem more vertical.

Whipcord example Paging @gimp

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe? Sometimes it's obvious, but for this one I don't know. Looks more like a heavyweight twill to me. That specific pattern would look like whipcord to me. Doesn't mean I am right. Whipcord, like flannel, would be a more casual fabric, and usually warmer too. Whipcord is gonna be better in mild wet, I think. Woolen flannel might shine at the seat eventually, whipcord likely less so. Both are great.

Thank you! Any issues with the pants being very old (50s-60s)?

If they don't have moth holes? I can't see any. I know camelhair can lose its "bounce" but I don't think wool degrades in any real way when it's not eaten, nor wet. I could be wrong.

sounds perfect thank you! gonna see how low a price i can get these for, will go really nicely with my donegal sportjacket. both made by the same company though 60-70 yrs apart!

That tag doesn’t look like 50s/60s to me. I would assume at least 70s but probably 80s. But it doesn’t matter when they were made anyway.

Good to know thank you He took my $85 offer (plus free ship). Excited for these, feel like that's a good price for new wool dress pants Oh wait it's sortve blue lol Should still go nicely with my dark blue donegal I think though with the contrasting textures eh I cancelled the order, going to think it over. the shipping arrival time overlapped with a family vacation too so can't risk having a package unattended @gimp whatcha think about blue twill trousers like these with the blue donegal sport jacket?

Contrast is gonna be way way easier than wearing two shades of blue even if the materials are very texturally different.

Thank you! Derek Guy wrote about wearing a grey donegal jacket with grey twill pants and a black knit tie. Is that easier than blue? I do have a dark grey glen plaid wool tie as well

It can work, but it's not going to be that easy to pull off well is my point.
