Custom domain configuration using AWS Route 53
Hi there, I'm trying to connect my custom domain fintraker.com which I have on AWS Route 53 to point to my Railway deployment. I've managed to get the www.fintraker.com working but I cannot get fintraker.com itself to work.
I've also tried to use Cloudflare proxying as stated in documentation: https://docs.railway.app/guides/public-networking#redirecting-a-root-domain-workarounds
But I did not suceed either. At this point I'm messed up and would appreciate so much some help š
I would be happy to provide any other info or screenshot thats needed to help me solve the issue, thanks so much in advance š

make sure proxy is enabled and requests use
https
and not http
when using cloudflare proxySorry I provided the service ID instead of the project ID, Project ID is 10fa226b-c0aa-4811-9638-048b9d606877
Yes, proxy is enabled and the requests Im doing use https
why do they point to 2 different railway domains?
When adding the two custom domains, I was provided with two instruction sets with different values
Also, I am not seeing the cnames on your DNS records
oh ok
Might be worth just to wait for the DNS settings to propogate
it can take up to 48 hours iirc
( normally is quick though )
Maybe I did AWS something wrong when setting up Route 53...
This is my current setup, in case it helps
Nah, you've set that up correctly
Maybe I should try to get back to just using Route 53 without Cloudflare
In that way I did manage to at least have www.fintraker.com working (i was just missing fintraker.com)
By using Cloudflare none of them work
I'd recommend just being patient
Okey I'll give it a couple of hours š
Sounds good
Thanks for your quick response!
Happy to help :)
Hi, sorry to be back š
A couple of days passed and the domain isnt working yet
Im assuming all DNS updates had enough time to propagate by now
Should've been, if not then there's definitally a problem
yea, I am not seeing any CNAMEs on that domain..
š¤ very weird
Welcome to AWS Route 53ā¦. I had this exact problem two weeks ago, and I had to give up
So didn't you find any solution?
Should I transfer my domain to another registrar?
If anyone was wondering, I finally transfered my domain out from Route 53 to Cloudflare
Sadly I'm now getting a ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error š¦
that will fix itself in time, always has every time someone has had that issue
well that would be true given that you have setup the domain correctly
Nice, thats what I thought
I will check back tomorrow and update the thread once everything is fine
usually sorts itself out within an hour
Just so maybe it help someone else
Guys I feel so bad for having to insist... but I'm still getting the error...
can you send your domain so that I can visit it?
Yess
www.fintraker.com seems to be working
The problem is with fintraker.com
show me the domains you have in your railway service?
why have the www subdomain using the proxy, but not the root domain?
I was just playing trying different things
I've now enabled both proxies
https://dnschecker.org/#CNAME/fintraker.com doesn't seem to be resolvong the domain
DNS Checker
DNS Checker - DNS Check Propagation Tool
Check DNS Propagation worldwide. DNS Checker provides name server propagation check instantly. Changed nameservers so do a DNS lookup and check if DNS and nameservers have propagated.
Thats strange, make sure to use incognito mode / no local cache
Now neither of them are working for me š
do you need www?
I really dont
I would be fine just with fintraker.com
okay then remove the www along with your root domain from cloudflare and railway, then add just the root domain back to railway and then cloudflare
Okey
I've now deleted everything DNS related on both sides
I've just added fintraker.com with Cloudflare proxy on
When visiting fintraker.com I get ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error
okay if you still see that in an hour let me know
Okey thanks
Hi š still same error š
works fine for me now
š
I'm even tying with several browsers and devices
Same ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH error on all
well i just got that error back
show me the domain in railway and your dns settings in cloudflare
this was the last change I made
looks good to me
Everything is according to docs in my understanding
more waiting š
not working
I'm going to delete the whole project and try to set it up again
After several attempts I managed to get it working š„³š
awsome!!
Config that seems to be working
