Cap or uncap FPS?
should I cap or uncap my FPS?
My laptop is 60hz and uncapped I can get 120-150 FPS
I could cap it to 60 but idk if I should. Thanks

I mean, if you have a 60Hz monitor, you won't see a difference between 60 or 500 FPS. But it's best to limit it to 60 FPS, because otherwise your GPU will still have to process everything.
@antantaru_ cap it where you are stable if you are stable at 120 cap at 110 by example
60^^
@thomas9943 nah fps and hz are not the same you want more fps but they need to be stable, i cant explain why because my english is not good enough but im sure you can find a video on this subject
""Is FPS the same as Hz?
While both refresh rate and FPS are related to each other and affect the smoothness of the displayed video or graphics, they are different. You may have a gaming system with a low refresh rate and high FPS or vice-versa.
In both cases, the lower number will limit the performance. For instance, if the monitor has a refresh rate of 60Hz, while the GPU is capable of 120 FPS, the graphics will not be as smooth as it should be for a 120 FPS GPU. This is because the monitor is capable of refreshing the display only 60 times a second. Conversely, if the GPU can render a maximum of 60FPS, while the monitor has a refresh rate of 144Hz, then will get a similar scenario.""
for shooter games its best to have a higher fps than your refresh rate
it decreases input lag
And how does that work? 🤔
doesnt let me post links but there should be a video on it
linus also made one years ago on csgo
its basically just higher fps = less rendering lag. less rendering lag = les input lag
or smth along those lines
Now you are making me curious. You know the name of that video?
let me find it real quick
forgot to add your also seeing more recent frames with higher fps
the title is “ Does high fps make you a better gamer?” and they talk about refresh rate somewhere in there
there’s probably newer videos about this but thats the one i thought about
Alr thanks! I will check it out later today.
👍
so should I cap or uncap?
if I cap I will put it at 100 because normally I hit 120-150 and it decreases a bit when a KJ/Viper/Harbor ults
but if not my FPS can go up to 240 if I'm staring at a wall
If you never drop below 60 fps uncap it
cap it at a consistent fps
so if you can hit 120 fps without it fluctuating much, you should cap it at that
and same thing for other speeds
yep thats how it is rn basically
alright
how do I test if 120 fps is all good
because sometimes lets say if we are in the 12th round and everyone just so happened to have their ults
so everyone goes all out
then whatever fps I get during then would be my true benchmark
or do I just play 1 round normally and keep note of the fps and just cap it a few frames below the lowest fps
i would go into a deathmatch and just pay attention to your fps in different scenarios (running, fighting, etc)
or just have it uncapped and play an unrated
try to record it and see the average fps
then cap it a bit under the average
alright thanks man will do
