Are black jeans “edgy”
Are black jeans considered edgy?
I’m a highschool senior trying to revamp my horrible wardrobe, and am aiming for a casual style that’s neat and versatile - something that’s good for school but still looks put together. I’ve been considering adding black jeans (slim fit) but i wanted to avoid any connotations of the edginess or punk vibe. Thoughts? Also, any other clothing suggestions would be nice. I’ve seen the suggestions on the subreddit already but it’s hard to tell what would be good to style for highschool and what would make me look like i’m trying too hard

I'm not sure what constitutes edgy, but I don't think slim black jeans do
I just don’t want something that stands out too much, if that makes sense
You can wear them dressed up or down, what kind of fits/inspo makes you lean towards black jeans? I usually envision a punk look to be more than just the jeans
I'd say slim black jeans are a pretty good staple piece
you can dress them up with collared shirts, or just wear a hoodie with them
yeah i would likely just be wearing hoodies/sweatshirts/sweaters with them
black jeans are something you can make stand out the least, to the point where they can be boring. here's some fits of myself that i've posted wearing uniqlo slim fit jeans. i wouldn't call any of these edgy or punk, and the jeans definitely don't stand out
ahh those are the exact jeans I ordered, nice
they're a great staple in your wardrobe, you'll get some good use out of them
It really depends how you style them. Black jeans on Johnny Ramone look very different to black jeans above.
yeah, shoe choice and top will define the vibe, not the jeans
I say go for more of a straight cut than slim if you're not looking to stand out too much
Levi's 505s new or vintage
New on sale price can go down to $40, make sure to use the student discount if the retailer offers it. Vintage could be anywhere from $20-50 on eBay (or maybe $10 if you get lucky with a great find at a thrift shop)
If you get vintage, look for made in the USA
which color do you think would be better?
Up to you, I sortve like grey more but that's purely personal preference
yeah definitely leaning towards gray black since the jet black just seems too strong
Do you know what size you are? If you aren't sure, I recommend going to your nearest Levi's store or department store and trying them on
i feel like it depends on the brand but anywhere from 28-30
i’m probably just going to wait for the uniqlo to arrive since i already ordered them, and then return them if i want to get the other ones
If you get Levi's, i'd recommend trying them on in person. Make sure they fully stay up on the waist with your belt fastened to not more than the third belt hole
I'd pick whatever inseam leads to the same effect as in those model pics on Levi's website
Would use that same advice to assess the fit of the Uniqlo jeans when they arrive
oh yeah my inseam is definitely 32, just my waist size that i’m not 100% sure on
this is what i’m going for though, so the levis will probably end up being better than the uniqlo
Yup the Levi's appear to be a less slim cut than the Uniqlo's you ordered which in my opinion is more versatile especially nowadays
Shouldn't be an issue returning the Uniqlo ones if you'd like (could try cancelling the order too)
eh they’ve already shipped and i’ve got other stuff in the order so i’ll just return when they come
also how are these two different? just longer?
Luh calm fit
It appears the one on the left is shorter at least in the model pic but I'm not sure
The one on the right is no stretch right?
I prefer non stretch but tbh I probably make a bigger deal out of that than I should
one on the right is stretch
501s are good too
What do you think of a looser cut btw? 550s are a bit looser
i’m fine with looser but I don’t like when they’re loose length wise
like i prefer either no breaks-1 break
Hmm ok
I'd say a full break is more in style nowadays but it's up to you and different breaks each have their place depending on the outfit
Keep in mind you can get jeans hemmed for $15 at a tailor if you can't find the perfect length you want though I personally wouldn't recommend less than a half break
Also a 32 inseam is a 32 inseam i'd think but I would try them on in the store especially as they can vary due to poor quality control
If you don't wanna spend any $$, you can also cuff them or cut the hem if you don't like the length, depends on the look you prefer
You know how like in RPG games there's like set effects you equip
I feel like black jeans activates like 50 set effects and you would have to dress in combination with certain items to hit the edgy aesthetic
really good analogy
Ngl I just felt like that rewired a neuron
Like I legitimately think that's a useful framework
No
To expand: No they’re not edgy.
I would just avoid ripped black jeans if edgy is what you want to avoid
