Shopping advice/developing my style

Hi guys, I’m looking to improve my fashion/style and looking for recommendations/tips. My usual outfit has been an gym or crew tee, sweats, and some running sneakers. I do have a couple Uniqlo supima tees in a couple colors (green, red, blue, black) that I used to wear when I was smaller but not much for bottoms other than sweats. I work as a software engineer in NYC, in our office there isn’t really a dress code but I’d like to at least look decent (I'm also a bit on the younger side relative to my coworkers @ 27). I’m 5’7, weight went from ~200 to 240. I’m working on getting back down but wanted to at least look a little better style-wise in the meantime. I can provide some pics/measurements if that helps.

With that, you will be better-dressed than all your coworkers. Unless you work with @mewball .

MFA likes straight fit right now, not slim. But you should buy what you like that makes you happy.

Based on your post it’d probably be wise not to spend an exuberant amount of money before you lose the weight you’re intending to. As it relates to slim pants it depends on your upper layering. If you’re planning on buying stuff in the tailoring department, slim pants will throw off your proportions

right now looking at getting some dark blue jeans, olive chinos, and one or two light sweaters and going from there fair, i was thinking of going with some of the more budget options (target, uniqlo) then once i lose more weight dip my feet into other brands i like the look of

It’s hard to tell since you aren’t wearing shoes but it looks like you might want to go a size smaller on the inseam. The pants are pooling around your ankles. That is a look in some aesthetics but I general I think you might want a shorter inseam. Besides that I think it looks good. It’s a little basic but similar to looks I like to wear. It’s a good foundation to start with and then you can experiment with other things that will pair well with those items

That's okay, you can just cuff them. Getting pants hemmed is also one of the cheapest alterations, usually around $15 most places

You're right that you should size up in the chinos. They look a little tight around the thighs and there's pulling around the pocket. I think the henley is a good fit
