what boots and shirt would you wear with this jacket/general advice on boots
Are there boots that could fill multiple hats where they work with this jacket but aren't only western themed?
Shirt wise thinking a crosscut denim shirt or a flannel but curious how people would approach this.
Thank you!

Chambray shirt and cowboy boots
Service boots for everything
maybe cowboy boots are more versatile than i think
Plain toe blucher boots in a brown chromexcel/adjacent or suede/roughout/adjacent leather? Plain but good. Dealer's choice for sole.
Thank you, didn't think of this
Any brands you recommend? J crew's ones look p nice actually
rebel against wide pants and wear that jacket with skinny jeans and chelsea boots a la 2010s slp
Nah don’t do that
This jacket is too long for that look
If you’re gonna wear it with slimmer jeans you should be looking for boot cuts and cowboy boots
Slimmer top block, straight or slight flare for the boots
Those are beautiful...
ie, muthafuckin indy boots. or yknow, a different alden boot. :P
these are what their CXL looks like in plain toe (after a lot of wear.)
So yeah just one idea. :P
They be so expensive tho
2nd hand market is flush with Indy’s
May have to take the jump into used shoes
Or wait for j crew to do a weird random sale 😂
wait what model is in the last pics with the wedge type sole
J Crew sells Alden and in my experience J Crew Alden is cheaper than mainline Alden without a reduction in quality
Alden - 45960H - 397X last and safari wedge sole. I think the precise model was a collab: "Snake Oil Provisions Pike Boot" according to the alden project.
The seller marked Barrie last, but it's 397X which IIRC is almost identical.
I might be wrong and 397X might be almost identical to Trubalance but I don't think so.
397x has a narrower waist and higher instep so it can be TTS
Narrower heel cup too but still a voluminous toe box
i could get indy boots from j crew for 590 but def not doing that rn lol
see on ebay used ones in my size going down to $350
J.Crew

any thoughts on j crew's pacer boots?
In that price bracket I would just try Grant Stone
Fine when on steep sale. I think they’ve switched manufacturers again tho on the last year or two, so no idea how good they are these days
yea, those pacers will be available for much less than that a couple of times a year
but also don't know how good they are now
J Crew Pacer boots are still the best Indy clones on the market. I like them more than Any of Grant Stone's boots tbh
I got Alden boots last night for $80 new so we're all goodd
A Chelsea boot could work as well. The laceless style can give the impression of a western style pull-on boot without all of the flare
Hope they fit!
What do you think of the style? They're not the Indy boots because those weren't on sale. I got them in two sizes so should be good sizing wise, only issue is if j crew doesn't ship them because they ran out or something
They're nice! I'm personally cooled off on snuff suede for a lot of pieces bc I already have so much of that color. But I think Alden plain toe boots are really nice and generally have great shapes, patterns, and proportions
Thank you!!
Thanks for info. I may have been misled about the last online. It being TTS rather than half size larger would explain some stuff. Definitely can confirm wide toe box!
Pretty much all published stuff I’ve seen about 397x says people take the same size as Barrie (half size down). I’ve tried it half-size down and have several friends as well and that waist and heel-cup feel just a tad too tight. At TTS it feels pretty good. Love the wide toe box!
Well, I am glad I am not the only one confused. Mine are actually 9.5, and my perfect size in a hampton last is 9, and barrie/trubalance is best at 8.5 soft / 9 hard leathers, yet the cxl 397x boots are quite comfortable at 9.5. I am pretty sure the size is incorrect for me but if it works, it works, I am not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. Maybe if I used them to walk more than a mile or two it would be a problem but for now, happy is as happy does. I may be taking Benji's thread off topic :)
The Kenton pacer boot looks good, Benji, but I have no idea about it. Given that it is $200 on sale versus Grant Stone Diesel boots for close to $400, that's a pretty wide gulf. If llbean says they're good, then they're good, I am sure.
Alden boots at $80 are a steal, I hope they're in good condition! Got pics?
Those look just fine to me. Good boot. Snuff suede is excellent, llbean is cooled on it because he bought a lot which means you know it's good ;) I really like Alden's PTBs as much as I like their Indys, norweigian split toe / Irwin, etc. The shape is good. The details are good. Overall solid.
They're new...
J crew had their bizarre sale at 3 in the morning
lol wat
you've used up your luck for the year, do not gamble in 2024
if I found brand new alden boots in my size for $80 I would break my commitment to buy no more shoes
What sizes did you get?
i was able to submit a second order for the boots in 8.5 too in case the 8s don't fit
idk what j crew was thinking 😂
lol fucking what, am I reading $7.90?
yah lol
mfw.
i may have missed out on getting cordovan brogues but i really can't complain
I can't even think of a good mfw for this
what's your brannock?
i was measured at jos a bank two years ago and the guy said 8
the dress shoes i have are 8.5
haha okay
i take 9 in sneakers and 8.5 in larger sneakers like chuck taylors. the paraboot michaels i accidentally got in size 9 which was much too big so i sold them for a bit of a profit
i ordered chambords a full size down for a decent price ($390 minus $50 made from selling the michaels) which are arriving tomorrow, really shaping up to be quite the footwear selection
how would you wear the suede bluchers? i may sell them though i'm thinking about reasons to keep them
Okay, so internet says Michigan boot is a Van last. According to folk, that runs anywhere from 1/2 size larger, to 1/4 size larger, to true to size, depending on foot shape. Barrie-esque in toe box but narrower and shorter at the same size. With my experience with Barrie and Trubalance, 1/2 size larger than expected (ie, size down 1/2 size) is roughly correct.
Now maybe the boot guys will crucify me for this, but here is my experience: a suede boot is softer and more flexible, and for me is more forgiving to sizing issues than (eg) a shell boot or shoe. So when I went to the Alden store, 8.5D was my perfect size in a suede boot, would be perfect from the first minute, but my 8.5D cordovan boots on the same last are a little tight and will take time to wear in and a 9D would be fine. I also accidentally bid on (because I forgot I was watching an ebay auction out of curiosity and not to bid -- ie, I am not buying any more shit) - I accidentally bid on and won a pair of suede indys in size 8, and they are comfortable enough, only a little tight around the lower ankle.
My TL;DR is that I suspect you will find both 8 and 8.5 comfortable enough. That is my guess. If that is the case, I personally would just keep both and wear both, because fuck it, why not? Of course yes the alternative is to resell one of them for a tidy profit (though ebay/etc fees will eat into it.)
Suede bluchers are not something I own (yet - but also see above, no more buying shit, hah). I would wear them I think the same as I wear my chromexcel bluchers. They're formal enough to wear with tailoring, but also informal enough to wear with jeans. So the range is wide.
What the actual fuck?
Alden for under 100
That's what I said, my friend
Mannn
That is like lotto luck
Best i have seen jcrew did was 40% flash sale around 2017 2018
In middle of the day
This is nut
More directed, I would probably want to wear suede bluchers when I was feeling 'fall' or 'cold spring'. Would look great with tweed, flannel. Great with earth tones, ivory tones, olive tones, rust tones. For winter, well, suede is tough but I might be a little worried if it was salty slush out there. For summer, maybe but it'd just need to be based on my mood. I think you can get away with just about anything as long as you're wearing long pants and not shorts, and not more casual than jeans, so ... eh I guess not the most useful advice?
Not for most suits, though.
Non suits and longer than the calf pants
I think suede plaintoe blucher work with a lot of things
Suede reminds me of colder weather so i tend to avoid summer time
Thank you for the help!!
Well I have olive milsurp trousers and olive fatigues
I have the grey herringbone wool chore coat, would that pair well with that suede color?
Yea should be fine
Pass me some of your luck will you
Geeezz i so jealous
Thank you! Thinking the wool chore coat, ocbd and the olive trousers could be an idea
Of course, apparently they have done weird random sales on Aldens before so keep an eye out
@gimp I may not have toggled from my school work late at night to look at the Aldens again if it wasn't for your suggestion!
