Connectivity
I was wondering if there was a way to make railway’s internet connection faster. Currently my bot sits at a stable 80ms web socket ping and I’d like for it to be in the mid 50s to low 30s. Is this possible?
I’m willing to pay for extra usage if it is.
(Also I’m really unsure if this is where I’m supposed to ask)

You're asking at the right place :)
The only way I can see you making the ping faster ( assuming your app itself is already as optimized as can be ) is if you move the bot to a region closer to your target audience, although if your target audience is US-west then it's already likely deployed there
otherwise you can upgrade to pro to deploy to a region closer to your target audience
which should reduce ping by a good amount
I’ve optimised it as much as I could’ve and when I was still using hetzner, contabo and linode my ping was around 30-50ms. My services have always been hosted on us regions and I’ve had no issues, so I thought If I could get that ping with those other providers I could with railway too.
The only reason I want it to be that low is because my bot is supposed to be the perfect automod solution and deleting messages with prohibited content as quickly as possible is the ultimate goal.
Anyway, thx for the answer :P

🤔 perhaps it's just a GCP issue ( railway uses GCP for their servers )
try using https://cloudpingtest.com/gcp and see if your ping is 80ms on US-WEST
if it is then it's just GCP and there's no solution
Alright thx
I checked, I get around 60ish
<:thinking_2:1117823695235321966> yea seems most of it is GCP's fault
Eh, It’s fine really. 80ms is still fairly good
Only reason I wanted it to be that low is so messages get deleted faster, nothing else
yea that makes sense
Anyway, thx for the help
Really appreciated
if you want fast dont you want to put the bot in the closest region to discords api servers?
From my experience the difference is only 3-5ms because I’ve tried several locations
fair enough, hopefully when railway moves off of gcp we will get better networking
Oh, there are plans to move off of gcp?
oh yes big plans
going to bare metal
That’ll be nice. Hopefully prices don’t increase too much :kek:
they wont, it would cost less for railway to run on bare metal actually, at least from what ive heard
I love railway for it’s price/performance ratio and for how easy deployments are. As long as it’s not over $15 a month I’ll continue paying it
If that happens It’ll be really nice
Hoping for the best
this is based on nothing, i dont think the user will see a cost reduction, purely just a guess but i think they put the savings back into the platform
Oh, I meant like will the plan prices increase
E.g from 5 -> 10 dollars/mo
i think railway is quite happy with the 5$ a month fee, i cant see them raising that
Alrighty
Well, it’s up to the team to decide so we’ll just have to see
true true
