i installed iris. but i dont know where to put it, i put it in my mods folder, nothing, shaderpacks, nothing im doing this with curseforge

What mod loader do you use

Curseforge isn’t a mod loader, it’s a launcher

run it
if it doesnt run, make sure you have Java 17 installed

if you want to use it with other mods, either download a mod loader such a prism and read through the documentation, or install an instance on Fabric on your Minecraft instance

with fabric installed, you can drag mod filed into your mods folder
remember: forge mods don't work with fabric, and therefore dont work with Iris
if you need forge mods, use Optifine instead i guess

if you want to use the fabric installation method, make sure you download iris from Modrinth and drag that file into your mods folder

i'm using a modpack which i assume is using fabric because i have a bunch of other mods installed on fabric. i have the same issue.
(im using the same launcher)
and it would be a pain to swap launchers at this point

you do realize Java.com hosts Java 8? the installer requires Java 11
