Recent-Purchases Follow-Up - Topic of the day 11/25/23
If you made a purchase over the past few weeks or months, how do you feel about that purchase now? Did you end up flipping it, end up liking it more than expected, or something else?

I'm on a cop freeze rn but my last few purchases have been hit and miss. I got plisses that were too big, EG pants too small, reselling half my proxy order, a couple thrift finds that I never wear. It's been a while since I've bricked this much, and it's a good reminder not to buy things just because they're cheap.
I made a similar mistake and bought a really cool patchwork sage de cret blazer on sale that is... a size too big for me. And it looks it. Good reminder of why I have mostly abandoned online shopping entirely.
Got several sport coats from drop93 and ebay, lundochlund, la marche. I certainly regret the dalcuore navy herringbone i got a bit since there are three navy sport coats and they aint getting much wears, plus the cut is a bit different from the rj ones so i not totally used to it
Latest few grabs have been vintage with pretty high degrees of success for the most part. Some wool-blend flares with a donegal herringbone pattern that I'm really digging. Seemed harder to style than expected after purchase but I feel I've been making them work. And then the two pieces pictured here. They've all fit great, made their way into my wardrobe quite seamlessly, and make me quite happy.
Last year was packed with bricks for me as I tried to expand my wardrobe on styles that I liked on other people but not on me. Got a pair of NB 550s that are practically new and some more saturated coloured items that clash with the rest of my muted pieces.
I've since learned and leaned more into complementing what I've already had. My first pair of big jeans are my new faves, same with my big wool trousers.
I think the moral I took away from the experience is that I'm best at buying clothes that are one degree of separation away i.e. similar to what I have, but different in one notable way.
I caved and bought a big scarf at Uniqlo
Have been wearing constantly
It broke all my rules (no cops, no new clothes, no uniqlo)
Big scarf feels pretty safe though
I bought a pair of white jeans because I wanted to try them out as an idea. I really liked them. Unfortunately, being cheap, the colour from the (probably fake) leather patch has bled in the wash and that makes me both wary of washing them, and uncertain on how to clean them. Or if they are just porked.
So I suppose it teaches me that i do enjoy white jeans, but that I need to be more discerning on where the fuck I buy them. Maybe I can just bleach them. I need to get rid of that God foresaken label first.
I have bought a LOT of clothes this year. I should do a retrospective, but not sure I have time.
A few that stand out:
PRL off white jeans, A+++, got me hooked on eBay.
Brooks Brothers navy blazer, total dud, comically too big, not returnable, live and learn.
Wax London jacquard overshirt, an experiment in buying something that wasn't cheap, deliberately disregarding practicality. Love it, got compliments last time I wore it, and more versatile than I would have thought.
Probably spent more at Patagonia than any single vendor. Love the quality and practicality, no regrets, but they rarely merit featuring in a fit pic.
SLP white sneakers. Love them, wore them all summer. Went from "I will never wear canvas sneakers" to "dammit MFA was right about this"
Red Adidas sneakers. Love them. They make me so happy.
My success rate definitely is higher since going down the MFA rabbit hole.
Few recent things:
RRL bejeweled belt has been worn every day since I got it, on my orslow 105s it makes my outfits feel more fun. Reversible kuba cloth pattern fleece vest from orslow is gonna need to find some fun layering options soon, cause its getting way too cold for a vest alone. But its damn cool and its staying.
To the point that I very much want other belts like this so that I can mix it up
Bought this ring. I've been using it a lot. Now I want more ring.
ive found oxiclean good for getting dye stains out

Bought two niche shirts a while back
hand washed and air dryed but the pink one unfortunately had a thread loose on the sleeve. So the embroidery was all wacky and came apart
did a quick fix and it looks okay from a distance but still a bummer.
also bought like 4 pairs of gramicci sized up in different colorways and pants are my least favorite of things to purchase so i usually just bought used or discounted ones I was just okay with. the pants work great with everything so really happy with the purchase. not a huge fan of the black belt, wish it was the same color as the pants, but i just tuck that in
extremely happy with the two coat purchases i made. don't have any winter coats coming from californian and although i agonized over sizing them im really happy 🙂
That double breasted number
Mew so sexy wit it
you’re not alone i bought some white jeans that fit great but i hadn’t noticed that you can pretty clearly see my underwear through the jeans :/
Layering level 100: layer your underwear with white jeans for sartorical affect.
Yeah, they are both peak @mewball . I moved from CA to Chicago in 2018...that first winter is fun if you've never lived anywhere cold.
I’ve endured part of an Indiana winter so I have at least some idea what to expect
Midwest winter brutal
Yeah, but you can wear more layers than a J Crew catalog.
so what youre saying is its time to start dressin
I'm from the widwest and went to school in Chicago and it was so fun leading an expedition to Eddie Bauer to get all the Californians their first winter coat 😁
