MFA's opinion on this wool coat
What does MFA think of this wool coat as an entry level item from RW&Co.? I'm aware it's not almost 100% wool and that my budget forces me to consider secondhand, but 62% composition for the material seems decent for the price: https://www.rw-co.com/en/classic-wool-coat-with-tailored-collar/470702.html?dwvar_470702_color=Camel&cgid=men-clothing-coats-wool-winter

I think you can get much nicer 100% wool coats second hand for much less (and that's in "like new" condition)
And if you really don't want to buy used, this seems like a better deal ($200 for 90% wool/10% cashmere)
UNIQLO
Wool Cashmere Chesterfield Coat | UNIQLO US
Wool blended with cashmere for a soft, elegant texture. Updated classic design.
Canada seems stuck with Balmacaans on Uniqlo
The coat’s too short too imo, kneeish length like the Uniqlo one is much better
I agree with you, though I tend to be around 5'8 and Uniqlo CA doesn't seem to be selling the Chesterfiled coat, though I can double check in a physical store
Composition isn't great and it's way too short for an overcoat. I'd pass
Understandable. I'll most likely buy secondhand new and have it approved somewhere in this channel
Good lad
that's what I ended up doing and got a $500 100% wool coat for $50
Another thread I started had a guy detailing the whole process to us, but should I still look for respectable brands there?
Especially if I don't have any chance to make a return
Yeah try the PTO filter, I'd add in Brooks Brothers and Polo as well
Plenty of sellers on ebay offer returns these days but make sure the shoulder measurement is good for you
Overcoats aren't too hard to size, when in doubt go big
My experience with them so far is a 42 from H&M being tight from the get go despite me being a M/40 and a S Gloverall Monty Dufflecoat. It's all over the place
H&M is terrible with sizing
but also don't go off of letter sizing
ask for measurements of the actual garment
check out sizing charts for brands where they are available
Will do. I'll take the absence of branding or sizing as a red flag
you can always ask the seller for that info if it's not provided
but generally not a good sign
Just to validate, a typical M wearer with a chest around 39 wears 40 or 42?
Asking that since I'm considering tailoring a M peacoat that's not snug enough for me
My suit size 38 and i wear S in coat
If I wanted thicker layering though an M will be considered
Dress in layers that you think you would wear with the peacoat, look at the mirror if u like it, if it still too relaxing and u want it snugger then alteration
there's no standards at all. Vintage clothes tend to run bigger but that's about it
