Dr. Martens Oxford fit

I bought some 8053's in my normal size (US 14) and my heels kept slipping out of the shoe. Then I exchanged them for a size down (US 13) thinking they might just run large. My big toe was hitting the front when I walked so it was definitely too small and I don't think that will fix when the leather stretches out. Is this a normal issue with Docs? I've never owned any before, but does anyone know whether other models have the same issue before I try to exchange these for a different model? Here's the one I bought: https://www.drmartens.com/us/en/8053-vintage-smooth-leather-oxford-shoes-black/p/30907001

Heel slip often happens in new shoes before they’re broken in because the sole doesn’t bend with your foot yet. I’d go with the larger size. It’s also a possibility that Docs just don’t fit your foot shape.

Thank you! I've experienced the heel slip with other shoes before but it was way more pronounced with the Docs. I'm guessing at least partially because the soles are so thick but I also know a lot of their shoes run large.

rule of thumb is: put your heel to the inside heel. Then look at the widest part of the shoe. Does it line up with the widest part of the forefoot?

I feel like I shouldn't be learning this in my 30's but here we are Thank you all I already returned the larger pair but I think these were a bad fit. Time to actually leave my house and go to a store

Unfortunately because there often aren’t half sizes DMs don’t work for everybody

I've seen other people say that too. I'll probably try at least one other model before I give up on the brand entirely.
