Which seam to cut for this overcoat?
Hi,
I’m not sure whether to cut the top or bottom seam of this overcoat pocket. Does anyone have any guidance?

Top open the pocket???

If they're functional pockets there will be white threads that zig zag across it
Try to pull the pocket open and you'll see them. Do not cut the actual seams
don't cut them, those pockets should not have things in them. doing so will ruin the shape
It's true that stuffing a bunch of stuff in the pockets will ruin the lines of the coat
But you still should cut the pockets open
@rej what I’ve shown you is exactly the most I see. No white threads. I went to the shop and they said to go to a tailor, wtf. They couldn’t even tell me about the damn thing they sell.
Can you tell if they have pocket bags on the inside/between the shell and lining? If not they might be non-functional
Where did you buy it?
Paul Smith. Will check on the pocket bags later
I do have a jacket whose pockets have two normal looking stitches, holding them closed, rather than white basting. So it does happen. That the store couldn't tell you is kind of sad.
Do you cut both open in that case?
In this specific case yes, but in general I haven't seen it often enough to really have a rule for it if that makes sense. It's almost always just basting thread
Oh so it might need cutting both open? Wtf…
I can’t tell but also it would be ridiculous if it didn’t open. Edit: can feel some lining for the bottom of the pocket… so I think there’s a pocket

I’m filling in the contact form to ask them what to do
It would be very silly if it didn’t have pockets lmao
Agree sometimes you just wanna put in some paper or tissue packets or ffs, gloves??
Or your frickin hands
Exactly especially since you’re supposed to use this fuckin coat in the cold. Customer support told me it can be opened, trying to figure out which side to open (or both?)
