It's funny how the numbers on the vintage ones look similar to Margiela's insignia. Per the article, the Margiela ones are far more comfortable and nicer.

Love my pair. Never buy them for retail but when you get them they’ll be love at first site. I’ll admit they hurt a bit when they first arrived but now they’re literally slippers. They also go with the most basic outfits so theyre super versatile.
When I’m running out of my apartment they’re the first shoes I go to

I regret selling my old bundeswehr gats. I didnt have the MMMs to compare but I always thought they were comfortable enough.
Adidas brought them back a few years ago as the Army, which I'm surprised didn't come back once more during Samba-fever
that's very interesting, i may have to look around to see if anyone is reselling the adidas ones news (i imagine it should be cheaper than MM?)

I really like my MM ones. I tried to get a replacement pair from Beckett Simonon and they just weren't what I wanted. I suspect the OGs are more similar to the BS ones being less padded and just vintage military shoes

Got some vintage Bundeswehr back when Brut still stocked them. Favorite pair.
The Bundeswehr ones are more comfortable than margiela ones. Have had the splatter GATs since around 2016 and they hurt the arch of my feet after a few hours of wear. The real ones survived 2015-2022 but died after becoming my work shoes.
so funny. I had the bundeswehr ones and thought they were so incredibly uncomfortable and ugly compared to the margiela replicas lol
i remember them having like paper thin insoles

The insole is thin and my surplus ones had ripped laces
But I stole insoles from some Nike sb kostons I had in high school and it was fine
i think mine actually had nike sb insoles in them lol
but i didn't think the super thin insoles were too bad starting out, I think I replaced them and just kept with it cause anything I put in had to be better than the 30 year old ones they came with

not replicas tho, these specific ones were actually made by suppliers of the Bundeswehr. When exactly I couldn't tell you, but they certainly aren't 30 years old
in Germany, a lot of the GATS in circulation are replicas by "Mil-Tec"

yeah, they should be the same as vintage ones
the way it works with German military clothes/gear is that someone somewhere designed a spec for this "Hallensportschuh"
and suppliers make the shoes to that spec

well here's how they describe "wenig gebraucht": Very good condition, very little wear (the shoes have all been checked and show little wear on the outside. Slight signs of wear may be visible on the inside. The insole may be a bit used. Sole and leather may have light stains but are still in very good used condition).
