probably needs the same malloc fix that other valve titles do
you can try running it through proton as well

I wish there is a tool that containerizes steam games that can use their own dependencies instead of system ones like flatpak
flatpak & distrobox
but the flatpak is currently broken the same way you're reporting
and distrobox doesn't work on nvidia
did you launch the native on bazzite? proton version seems to work well

The best way to run these older source games is probably via Proton anyway and you'd get better performance. Zink helps with native older OGL stuff a tad as well
