Wool dress socks recs? Should I just go with the Smartwool & Darn Tough everyday pairs?

My personal experience is that Darn Tough is much more durable. My Smartwool pairs have already piled like crazy even though I washed and dried them correctly. The fit for Darn Tough is kinda weird though, but I got used to it

i'll update you when i get them. in terms of brands i've heard good things about for dress socks: bresciani, marcoliani, pantherella
i've heard very good things about darn tough but i don't think anything they make is considered dress socks

I just recently bought two pairs of Mazarin knee-high wool socks and can highly recommend them
they look amazing and feel super smooth and comfortable on my feet

These socks work well with any lined boot and together with a thicker pair of socks they make any non-lined leather boot much more comfortable. Get yours!
I love pantherella over the calf dress socks. They're pricey but very worth it as they last a lot longer than my other dress socks

Speaking of over the calf, is over the calf necessary for dress socks or is 3/4 calf ok? Finding differing opinions on that one

Well just from my personal experience, I was having trouble with dress socks slipping over the course of the day and over the calf socks fixed that problem
Yeah I'm in the same boat as Nacho. I don't think OTC is necessary but I have to wear dress socks to work on most days and got annoyed with my 3/4 socks always slipping. Now I only buy OTC.

Gold Toe is pretty good value from what I hear, sounds like a good idea
depends on your style, but I love Wigwam 625 ivy socks for a nice thick wool sock in ecru
Marcoliani wool socks are very nice. I also have a few pairs of Allen Edmonds wool socks (the ones made by Wigwam in the US) that are also very nice and have a bit of cushion on the sole.
