Bazzite portal isn't downloading or installing anything on a fresh install on my Steam Deck
I have installed Bazzite on my Steam Deck and the portal prompted me to install the necessary apps. I clicked on which ones I wanted to install but when I clicked next and went to show console, everything was getting an error, something with distrobox not having podman or docker. I tried the next section with trying to install other apps such as web browsers, streaming etc. Again, all errors. Nothing is getting installed.

What ISO did you use?

yeah it's online.. must be an issue that could have been fixed by now. i just noticed all the new commits haven't been built into the image in over a day

you can try doing it in the command line for all the stuff you want
the first page of apps are all just commands
and second
third is flatpaks
and the last page on bazzite portal just tells you to reboot when you have done that
If you could provide a log of what you're seeing in Portal that would be helpful
it'll take a bit cuz I'm on my pc and not on my deck and I'm trying to put it in the log

although the flatpak errors are really making my head scratch
I have not but I imagine it should give me root privileges regardless because I set it to give me root privileges and put it without a password
im not sure 100% but i dont think thats how that works lol

this one is def a permission issue. basically it isn't creating the distrobox container so something is going on there with root

oh yeah, I tried something right now
if I leave everything by default in the 'setting up bazzite' section and then install the apps afterwards, apparently it downloads everything normally
it doesn't give me any errors right now
also yeah that's the one I'm using too
What are even the causes of very bizzare issues?
thats what we're trying to figure out
im still installing the image on a VM, my deck is the 64GB model which im not testing Bazzite again on it until 39 builds are out to see if anything has changed
but yeah idk. weird stuff like missing flathub at boot and permissions errors for the distrobox container for OP
distrobox is rootless in the first place
whole thing seems odd
I added a safety check that'll enable flathub, but that only fixes half of this

You could try seeing if this is an issue on 39. We're rolling it out soon:
rpm-ostree rebase ostree-image-signed:docker://ghcr.io/ublue-os/bazzite-deck:39
Though I'd imagine it comes down to the networkalright, I'll give it a try
I'm installing it now on 39 and actually so far there have been no errors in the installation at all
everything seems to work great now

I'm installing everything right now on the bazzite portal, but after successfully installing fleek, it seems to be stuck and not doing anything
ok nvm it just took way longer than I expected
good to know the 39 builds work fine
yeah but it's still kinda stuck loading now after installing wootility for some reason
tried opening and reopening bazzite portal but nothing's installing once again
after wootility, it gets stuck
waited like 30 mins but it's not loading anything for some reason
I unchecked opentabletdriver and scrcpy and installed them with just and worked fine
I'm installing the apps now
when you're done try installing those with the just command in the terminal
curious if that's a network issue or something else
well, when I installed opentabletdriver with just, it worked just as it should
same with scrcpy
but in the portal it did not wanna install it at all

apparently in the application installation, it gets stuck at installing chrome as well.
didn't happen before in 38
brave installed fine but chrome's stuck
chrome & brave are normal flatpak install commands
that would have to be network
earlier w/ opentabletdriver and scrcrpy that's also network, it downloads an image of fedora/arch and loads it in distrobox
along with that application
so it would be a problem on my end then?

I restarted just now and it continued the app installation lie normal with microsoftedge and opera installing now
it is pretty stuck so yeah, it might be on my end probably

yeah, I get it, it's still being developed so there might be some issues, though it's strange that the problem would be within fedora itself

did some updates & cleanup
fresh install of 38 in a VM
oversteer & solaar
emulation flatpaks
seems fine now, would love if one of you could update with

did a fresh install of 38 again on my deck but I still have the same permission issue for some reason
not installing anything and flathub's still missing
I have no clue why
I tried changing my DNS since I thought that might be the issue but it says I have insufficient privileges
I'll just wait until 39 appears
I put 39 on the deck but now it has the same issue once again

whatever, I just installed everything using just in the cli right now
everything installed perfectly
and I installed the flatpaks using the portal
it's kind of a bandaid solution but everything worked
I used just and not ujust
but now steam isn't starting in gaming mode for some reason
and steam isn't starting up either
nvm, it's because of toggle-autologin, I turned that on by mistake
although one annoying thing I noticed when I boot into gaming mode: audio is really choppy
Known pipewire bug, fixed in 39 and should be fixed in 38 very soon.

If I had another steam deck, I would have steamos on it for testing purposes
It seems that bazzite and steamos shares many of the same bugs
We have every SteamOS package
And very similar versions
And it's out of scope for us to be fixing valve's bugs
