❔ Opinions wanted on a new server for information services workers
We are launching a new Discord server aimed at fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and service offerings within the realms of information architecture, software engineering, integration, and automation.
This server is designed to bring together a community of information architects, software engineers, students, and hobbyists who share a passion for these domains. Whether you're seeking advice, eager to share your experiences, or looking to offer your services, this is the place for that.
Candidate Channels
- Communication: Discussions on the latest industry trends.
- Guidance: Share and learn best practices.
- Solutions: Answers to common technical questions in this field.
- Networking: Connect with potential collaborators or even future employers.
- News and Announcements: Updates from services, platforms, tool vendors, and other Discord servers associated with the topics of this one. Channels subscribed to notifications from product and service vendors.
- Tutorials: Follow or write short tutorials on dedicated channels
- Opinions: Reviews of your experiences with services and tools.
- Programming help: Assistance with any languages used in your projects or required by your tools.
- Lounge: Idle chatter sort of related to the server theme.
Possible Integrations:
- Notifications: Pushed from various services relevant to the server theme.
- Subscriptions: Channels to receive notifications from repos for open source products and other sources.
- Proxies: Bots to communicate with established services as well as products collaborated on by server members.
- Connections: Bots to integrate the server with platforms like GCP, AWS, Azure, Zapier, PipeDream, IFTTT, and sometimes with services collaborated on by the community.

What does it have to do with C#?
Only a little, it has to to with programming in general, including C#, and after getting permission to post it on this server, the general opinion in #chat was that I should rather post it here.
And it was an admin that gave said permission?
I got it through mod mail
Still not sure how this is help related thou
@The Dark Realm's No. 2 - Hazel felt it would be better here so it's a bit sticky and I can track replies
what's the appeal over joining multiple more specialized servers?
My first inclination was to use #showcase, but the is more clearly only for actually development projects. I'm sure my server members will be using that channel quite often though
lots of the bullet points are basically redundant and boil down to "talk to other people about tech"
and long-form content like tutorials doesn't belong on discord IMO
The point is to form a single community of people interested in that collection of related topics
it seems very broad
It isn't that broad. It's not intended to include all information service automation and integration, but the emerging area of using readily available, usually cloud based, services to accomplish this.
The rapid growth of that industry suggests to me an opportunity for a place where people can discuss comparisons and combinations of these new services.
I can't really discuss hosting a web service on Azure with a domain registered at Hostking, name servers on AWS Route 53, and a Discord bot running on GCP in separate conversations on the Discords deciated to each of those services.
well, that's not in what you posted
Information integration architecture kind of suggests such scenarios
But I posted it here for opinions and I thank and respect you for yours. Now I would just like a few more, with questions and suggestions
I also posted it here because I sort of know a lot of the people here, have been here quite a while, and find this crowd to be the best minds out of all the servers I belong to. An acount messup reset my join date to this year, but was very regular on this server for at least two years, and quite close to meeting associate requiements.
I recommended creating a help thread because they had posted large messages like the one here at least one other time to my knowledge and had extended conversations around it seeking assistance with wording, etc. The main concern was certainly reducing overflow in #chat.
