My favorite brand/designer right now. Their new releases are amazing:
https://earth-studies.com/collections/experiment_10
Some fit/sizing thoughts on what I've tried so far:
- MS-104 Field Jacket: Fits true to size to relaxed (boxy, slightly cropped)
- MP-103 Field Pant: Fits true to size. Consider sizing up depending on where on the waist/hip you want to wear them. Curved leg.
- MP-104 Field Short: Fits relaxed to oversized. Consider sizing down.
- Doe Bay Shacket (18 East collab): Based on 18 East's cut instead of Earth\Studies's. So I sized up and am getting the bottom hemmed to make it fit more like Earth\Studies's MS-109 shirt (i.e. boxy).
- Cinch Back Camp Hat (18 East collab): "One size fits most". Definitely "most' and not "all" because it does not fit HUGE heads.
ive had my eyes on the field pants forever, was stoked when they got a canadian stockist but they didn't get the charcoal or bark
ah yea, NAQP didn't stock a ton. Damn shame. Earth Studies doesn't ship to Canada?
They do I’m just always cautious about getting destroyed in duties/taxes.
ahhh makes sense. Well, if you have any questions about fit or whatever I can try my best to help. I want to get the MS-109 shirt next
My fitted cap size is 7 5/8…how are we liking my chances?
thats a huge noggin (same size as mine)
I'm a 7 1/2 and it's a tad tight
Actually I've got a lot of hair, so I might be closer to a 7 5/8 with that in mind.
That's about the same as my size too. I'm maybe closer to 7 3/4 and I can get the hat on.. but the pressure/discomfort kicks in after a few minutes.
Damn..thanks for the input guys. Those hats suck anyway (jk 😭)
Love the way NMWA styled the field pants here https://www.instagram.com/p/CyBfqJ1uVsC/?igshid=NzZhOTFlYzFmZQ==

NMWA is awesome. They have $50 off $250 for your first order, which I used for the jacket here: https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1154667506619924501/1160051870711169094
they also included a super cool tote
Alteration before and after: 18 East x Earth Studies Doe Bay Shacket
Legit copped 30 minutes after seeing that IG post, should arrive later this week. NMWA probably has my mailing address memorized by this point
SIIIIICK. That chestnut color is so good. I wish the pant legs weren't curved so aggressively on the field pants but the details, fabric, and construction are insane
Still sad the shorts in M were way too large on me but S was sold out everywhere.
Look at my right thigh
I think the oversized fit could've worked if the material draped better. But the ripstop fatigue pocket makes the right leg stick straight outwards

The NMWA one. I think it’s over now. 10YEARS was the code.
Anyone have the field shorts? Curious to see how oversized it is, not sure if i should go TTS or can get away with sizing down
OOhh did you go TTS on the mediums?
Sizing down will be tricky since the waist isn't elasticated. TTS would be best. I'm between small and medium for shorts
Ah dang well thats good to know! Definitely wouldn't be able to size down in that case
yea, the shorts are super nice though. Shame the medium couldn't work for me <:cat_sad:1110754079442997398>
maybe they'll make a khadi version next spring/summer?
They’re awkwardly oversized imo. The waist, seat, and drop crotch is big but the thigh opening is small.
Hmmmm that sounds uncomfy. Was movement inhibited at all because of it?
Yea I ended up selling them bc the silhouette was so hard to work with and they weren’t actually comfortable to climb or hike in.
Hmmm from what I recall the waist was smallest compared to all the other measurements
An elasticated waistband would make it so much better
Where did you sell yours btw? I can almost never find earth studies listings on Grailed
I usually wear an L but had to size up to an XL bc of the drop crotch and thigh width. Even then the drop crotch should have been a gusset, I think that would solve a lot of the issues I had with them.
I listed them on grailed but ended up selling them to a guy on Styleforum @001anthony
gusset is always the answer thread on SF?
No thread, just a dm
Aw man. Guess I'll just keep hunting. Thanks for the info though!
That's so unfortunate because I wanted to wear them as actual functional field shorts. Will hold off for now.

I believe they're using the same workshop as 18East, but I'm not 100%
Hopefully their new pants won't have curved legs
or maybe keep the curved legs so my wallet can be safe
Hmmm they did have that one collaboration together. But from the handful of pieces I've owned and worn, Earth Studies is at least one tier above 18 East in construction and quality
might have more to do with materials than anything though
nah, I'm talking about the seams and stuff. My 18east pieces have always seemed real rough around the edges compared to Earth Studies

That sweet, sweet new indigo

which size did you get?
Size M sold shortly after I posted it :PepeWhy:
Got a Large! Was gonna size down to an M but saw that it wasn't elasticated, so just went tts instead
yea sizing up if unsure is definitely better. The shorts would be perfect if it had a elastic waistband like on the South2 West8 CS pants/shorts. That elastic is nuts
I meant to say this a while ago but whoever bought the indigo short from NMWA in my size as I was looking it…..I hate you
I hope you look like shit in them
the field short? they got some sizes on their site and a few other stockists.
i would fill that pocket so full of beans that they probably wouldn't stay up though
im really tempted to grab the indigo shirt but the only canadian stockist is out in a L and while I could size down, why would I? I'd get merc'd in duties if I bought from a US site.
Yeah but NMWA had em at 20% off lol.

Threads

1/🧵 What’s happening in fashion retail right now, and how it affects you, the shopper. My takeaways from what I heard out of mens’ market in Paris and upcoming New York shows (where I will be showing my brand)
The landscape is bleak. Everybody in Europe is shook. Retailers are hesitant to try new brands because money is tight. Gotta stick with ...
Yeah Brandon has been relatively open about some of those challenges, I think it’s an interesting perspective to see as a consumer. I don’t know what the solution is I guess, but I hope earth studies keeps making cool shit.
Also not that it matters but I met Brandon at a party once and he was very sound & had good Seattle restaurant opinions idk
yeah i reached out brandon and rob early on when the brand just started, and we were working on some potential collabs, unfortunately those kinda fell through as they grew and got busier
they were genuinely nice folks
Yeah they seem that way. Shame the collabs fell through but it seems they’re growing a bit of a cult following despite everything in that thread
I reached out again hoping to bump it back up, so hopefully it still happens. But yeah, love their stuff and ethos, I'm sure they'll keep up the growth trajectory
I'm so bummed Lazy Sun (who I've purchased some earth studies pieces from) is now no more.
I was in Utah and wanted to visit their store but we got too busy with all the national parks and couldn't squeeze the extra 6-7 hours of driving into the itinerary. Told myself I'll just visit Lazy Sun the next time I'm in Salt Lake City or something, then a few months later they announce they're closing shop :feelsbadmanGun:
They were my favorite stockist/retailer :(
Brandon is a dear friend, he's kind and sharp and very plugged in
and also prone to anarchic worry
capital consolidation is real, and a problem, but small brands find a way. retail shops churn. that's always been the case. it's a low margin business
support cool makers and be nice!
that's all most of us can do to help
of the brands that Brandon listed, how many experienced an explosion of interest and popularity in the last 5 years?
ROA, Gramicci, Salomon, Satisfy, District Visiondare I say ... all of them?
Anyone here have Earth Studies hats? How do they fit? :batmanHmm:
debating that ochre research shirt. might size down though... the L is 2" in the chest and 3" bigger in the shoulders than my L EG bedford.
It's supposed to fit oversized though. And 100% cotton will shrink some
I went true to size and love the fit. But that was the older, ripstop version, which doesn't drape the same way as the new woven stuff.
yeah but it's not like EG bedfords are slim fit, the jump especially in the shoulders feels huge. for a shirt (I know it's more of an overshirt) it feels like the M is sized more like a slightly oversized L in most other brands. but I do get that brands size the way they do for a reason so I'm not sold on the size-down. wish I could try it on. I probably will just not buy it, it's too expensive to biff the sizing.
Yea it's why a while back I said 18 East fits slim compared to earth studies
The size M of the 18 East x Earth Studies collab shirt is slimmer than the size S of the Earth Studies shirt
What size do you usually wear in 18 East shirts?
L or XL, but their sizing is all over. The oxfords have a 24 pit on a L, the Field shirts have that on an XL, my homer popover is like 22-23" on a L.
:LUL: yea tell me about it
I was gonna suggest buying from NAQP since you're in Canada but their return/exchange policy is kinda ass:

Reminds me of Canoe Club
But at least you can exchange? Better than being stuck with it
They have M and L in stock right now
I would buy from NAQP if I bought it from anywhere but I'm not going to risk it.
They have decent sales from time to time
@ler i think you should pay the most attention to sleeve length
TTS fit me best because a size down was just a little too short in the sleeves even though it fit great everywhere else
TTS fits me pretty relaxed and boxy in the chest and shoulders but the length and sleeves are perfect
30% off Earth Studies at Equipment:
https://discord.com/channels/1116793467654381685/1116800072093532191/1267653455271428138 I think I should've sized down on the shorts
They look great imo
Between the cut and the massive multiple pockets they are just extremely wide
Yup. Same here. I wouldn’t size down.
Just gotta match it with some boxy tops
or do more squats :ez:
reason im considering sizing down is i am broad shouldered but do not have long arms. lookin at the sleeve measurements sizing to a M would be fine but it's also not a huge jump anyway.
Where were you getting the measurements from? I noticed sites were doing it a little weird and I believe NMWA pulled their numbers because they were off. My medium has 36 inch sleeves.
This was NAQP
ponderosa strata research shirt is nice
Earth Studies's studio pic of "Ponderosa Kantha"
Windthrow's:
Looks like the color looks way better in person (more brown and less sickly tan). In my experience Windthrow's colors have been more true to life
:batmanHmm:
but man, the official pics look so fucking bad with that (super warm/yellow) color balance
this is probably closer to what the "Ponderosa Strata" looks like in person:
My store just got in our earth studies delivery
I got the kantha research shirt, field pant, and vest
Its wicked
Fwiw to me the ponderosa kantha looks more of a military olive color than brown to me
The brown stitching contrasts with the base fabric
Oh so it's closer to the official pics than Windthrow's?
Yeah windthrows are totally off
wonder what happened because their colors for earlier stuff were more accurate than the official pics :RIP:
but man, that's a bummer because I actually liked the fucked up brownish Kantha :Sadge:
Did they have the flannel? How's the color for that?
oh also how's the drape on the Kantha shirt? Is the bigger pocket noticeable stiffer (and thus drapes differently)?
I've had that issue with some of their pants and shorts when the pockets are made of different fabrics.
Heres a pic I took earlier today of the fabric
No flannel sorry
I havent noticed any weirdness with the two fabric panels
Theyre pretty similar weight / feel
:PatBless:
yea Windthrow's pics are completely fucked
Flannel already sold out on the site

New jacket that might be part of the October release. Haven't seen this teased or shown anywhere else
Have to say the p_article shirts have been my favorite so far
which one(s) do you have?
do you mean their tees?
I wish they'd use that same silhoutte on their cotton tees. Their cotton tees are cut so fucking weird
Ah yes sorry the tees
They're great, cut is fantastic
100% agree here, might just get the other colorway cause i enjoy it so much
Got a fit pic?
I love the shoulders and sleeves
Like a cooler version of the uniqlo u oversized airism tees
Hell yeah. Looks fucking sick
