❔ Can't launch the Visual Studio Installer.
So I have a custom version of windows installed on a vm because my internet was trash and i had a limited time and i need to program c# for my classes, how can i get this to work or what is the cause of the issue?

also my custom version is revios
so you got a hacked up version of windows that claims to remove a bunch of stuff and you're surprised it's not working?
Ask ReviOS support ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i wanna learn what the dependencies are
if i can install it by myself
you can share any specific error messages, but i doubt anyone here will be able to help you
there is no error messages
then there's literally nothing we can help with
a window pops up then it immediately crashes
just get a real windows ISO
i told u guys that my internet is shit and i dont have time
it will take less time to download than it will to figure this out
i have limited internet too
what do you want us to do with 0 information and an esoteric OS?
@ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
do you know anything?
i can reinstall some of the bloat but i dont know what bloat to install
I never used a modified version of Windows so I have no clue
The only people that would have a clue, would be the RevOS developers
i tried to use ameliorated windows for a light server setup, i immediately ran into issues and gave up
And if you really want to quickly cobble together some C# on limited internet or what have you, install Linux, the 30-day Rider trial, and go wild
yeah, if you don't need VS specifically just write C# on whatever OS you're already using
and if you have a school email address you can get rider for free
Or, worst case scenario, VSCode + Devkit
what is devkit
im gonna consider it if its gonna be good
the extension for VS code that lets you write C#
i wouldn't say it's good compared to a proper IDE like VS or Rider, but it will probably be enough for your classwork
does it have forms?
no
windows forms only works on windows
Ah, well, so we can throw away the Linux idea as well
if that's a requirement for your class then there is no way around installing a version of windows that works properly
unless you'd really rather spend time trying to cobble this other OS into working
Two solutions:
1. Ask RevOS people what's wrong
2. Install a normal version of Windows
i'm not sure what the actual problem is here
because i checked and a ReviOS ISO is 3.75GB which should be about the same as a standard windows ISO
i don't have a recent one on hand but a standard windows ISO should be under 5GB
also ReviOS is discontinuing ISO downloads and they tell you to install normal windows first anyway
standard windows iso is more than 8 gigs
win 10 pro 64 bit is 4.8gb
at least it was last friday
u will need an at least 8gb stick tho
if it was me, i'd just wait the extra time and not have to deal with a legally questionable, clearly unstable modded OS
i dont have the diskspace too
it doesnt mean the 4gb iso will be still 4gigs after install
a fresh windows installation should be like 20GB
yep
you'll probably need another 10 or so for VS depending on the workloads you install
+ ~5gb for vs
uninstall one AAA game and you'll have plenty of space
You can't have your cake and eat it too. If your computer cant handle windows + VS you're at what, a 32 gb disk?
afaik they aren't on windows and want to set up a VM for a class
Okay, well assign it a 100 gb disk and you're fine.
If thats a problem, buy a new disk. Deal with it.
also i wasn't really joking about uninstalling a game or two, assuming you play games that's probably what's using the majority of your disk
^
grumbles about starfield being 120GB
i gave it like 50gigs
i wanted it to be good
that's more than enough for a windows installation with VS
so you have enough disk space
so your remaining excuse is slow internet, which would have to be borderline unusable for that to be a real problem
at 8Mbps down it wouldn't take you over 2 hours

if you had started downloading real windows at the start of this conversation i bet you'd be at least halfway done by now

maui is missing for win/mac ;p
also now that i think about it, quite often schools and alike teach on netfx, so if thats a requirement u r out of options besides installing windows anyway
netfx = .NET Framework btw
