Loafer Fit
Picked up some vintage Weejun kiltie loafers secondhand. When standing, fit seems properly snug, no heel slip, and still reasonable room in toe box. However I notice that
- when walking, there’s a bit of tightness/pressure on the mid/top of foot (where the top of the shoe ‘cuts away’ if that makes sense, sorry not sure of the terminology)
- when my heel hits ground the midsection of shoe sort of noticeably widens (in the 2nd picture I’m holding my foot in this position to demonstrate)
Is any of this to be expected or do you think it’s worth sizing up? Thanks all!

Loafers are tricky to fit exactly. You would likely find there would be heel slip if you sized up and the side flaring would be worse.
The main diagnosis is that your feet are too wide for those shoes. Unless it’s uncomfortable the flaring is fine. You could try a size up tho
I’m with ll - the flaring happens as you walk. If you’re experiencing tightness, they are probably too narrow.
You can buy a cheap shoe stretcher on Amazon if you want a DIY solution
Was able to find the same shoe a size up: it does feel more comfortable in the toe box and no tightness under the tongue, but there’s room in the heel causing slip. Wondering what direction to go from here? Heel/tongue pads / try different width / different brand? Thanks again all..!
Depends on how much slip. If the soles just feel stiff that's fine. If you're falling out of the shoes they're too big. A tongue pad might help
