What do y’all do for “Hand Wash Only”

Figured this might be a good thread. I’ve been in the habit of washing on a cold delicate cycle unless the item is insanely delicate (I have a couple silk/rayon blends that fall apart if you look at them wrong) and woolens. I haven’t had issue yet but wanted to check in with what people have been doing.

I wash on cold in a garment bag with my regular clothes and then hang dry. Sweaters get hand washed with no rinse detergent every now and again A few garments (viscose and one silk shirt) changed slightly after the wash in terms of texture but I view it as them taking on character

For my knits I will wash cold in a garment bag and dry flat. For woven shirts I just wash on delicate cycle on their own and hang dry. Pants I just dry clean maybe once a season or two.

for everything but wool that says hand wash only, I've been just fine using the hand wash cycle on my washing machine for wool, I hand wash in a bucket with detergent. I'm not sure if my washing machine will mess them up

Same for be but I wash everything in the washing machine and I had no problems so far. I have multiple wool sweatshirts and they've been fine, even after many washes. I also use special wool laundry detergent for everything because it's usually more gentle and can preserve your clothes better than normal detergent.

Dumb q but what’s the difference between knits and woven shirts? Like sweaters and linen button downs?

Yes knits are sweaters and woven fabrics are linen, poplin, etc

generally, t-shirts and sweaters are knits while button-front shirts, most pants, and suits are woven

Depends how much I care. Sometimes hand wash, sometimes cold cycle w low spin.
