Suit Jacket Fit 38 vs 40
Bought both a 38 and a 40 of the same suitsupply suit on ebay for stupid cheap because I was between sizes in some measurements and figured I'd just solve the problem when I got both of them and donate the one that doesn't work. Now I've got both of them and the 38 seems almost cartoonishly small, in a way that I think is doing really weird stuff to the vents and arms, but I don't actually trust my eye because I almost never wear tailoring.
I guess my question for the folks more well-versed in tailoring is just: is there any point at all in trying to get the 38 let out in the waist to get that flare under control, or am I better off just sticking to the 40? (and I suppose a follow-up question is, if so, what work does the 40 need beyond maybe taking it in the tiniest bit in the waist?)

Suitsupply is cut slim. I think the 40 fits you better.
You're gonna want some modest tailoring anyways (sleeves) so bring em both to the tailor and get their professional opinion... but I think they'll tell you to stick with the 40.
Thank you for the reply gimp, was hoping this would hit one of the tailoring regulars lol. Out of curiosity, what work would you say the sleeves on the 40 need? And ik you might not be able to tell from the pics, but is there anything you'd recommend doing to the body/waist area?
Not gimp but i agree it's the 40. I wouldn't touch the waist you could have brought in like a quarter of inch in each side but imo anything more and the jacket would start to crease/X when buttoned. The sleeve issues he's talking is the creasing on the back of your arms. I think that's a sleeve pitch issue so the tailor needs to remove the sleeve and reattach it at a different angle most guys need it done. I think your sleeve length is good.
I wouldn't recommend detaching the sleeves in general. I wouldn't be surprised that if OP rotates their arms forward a bit, problem goes away. I don't like the creasing but fixing it is risky.
What I do mean is that the sleeves are too short. And also angled off from the shirt sleeve. Get it like a half inch longer or so, and get the angle of the cuff corrected.
TY both, meant to reply to @severedwyre 's comment yesterday but totally slipped my mind. My posture absolutely sucks, so I'm probably going to just work on paying attention to how I hold myself rather than take such drastic measures with the jacket. Agreed on the sleeve length/angle I think, I just measured it out and letting the cuff out a half inch sounds about right. Thanks both again for the feedback!
