Very weird blur of sorts on LOD chunks. Using DH 2.0.0 RC3
Just noticed this, the effect is mostly visible on sand. Idk whether this is sand - exclusive š

Download the first picture to see the effect. Discord seems to limit the resolution, making it basically unnoticeable.
That's SSAO
It's on every block
Configurable in options
Still, the blur occurs in the edge of the blocks, if the blur is disabled theyre sharp as it should
Okay, this is really weird. First the terrain looked all blurred, then I teleported far away, then back and now it looks normal. Here take a look:
ok ive checked it on the lastest nightly build for 1.18 forge. It does happen.
Hmm, Null might know more
He did most of the SSAO stuff recently
tweaked as most as i could for reducing it, though is only a teeny bit :/
Here you can see it very clearly. Must be a bug?
yes quite, the same as the previous imague.
I am using Rubidium and Oculus. Maybe they are the culprits?
im not using em and still have it also, though i only noticed it now(i only played like 20 mins with the mod)

Oh yeah, might be noise as well
It's in advanced graphics settings
Noise
No noise
AO with default settings.
š
AO off
If you take a look at the last screenshot I sent, you will notice that both Noise and AO are present/enabled. Those are NOT two screenshots merged together, but one. It's just that DH terrain is in some (seemingly random) areas blurred and thus brighter. It's a bug, not a feature (as far as I understand, at least)
Im still confused how they even reached that observation logically
It's probably the lighting
Do you want me to put on night vision plus the sun dead center above?
Sure, I really don't notice what you mean in my gameplay
Not that I've been looking for that specifically though
It could also be a lack of anti-aliasing
Can you click the photos and see the sharpness in it?
oh at the top here?
AO off
this?
and bottom right, it is really noticeable
if you compare it with no AO
@Null Might know more, not sure what's going on here.
so do you see that is blurry?
Yeah I do but I don't know why it's happening
And I can't reproduce it on Nvidia
Im on nvidia
ssao is intentionally blurred to hide dithering
you can reduce blur radius and increase sample count
I dont see any dithering without AO, in what situation should be noticeable?
ssao on, blur radius lowest setting
ive set it to 1, i cant see any dithering.
Edit, ok now i see it. Its barely noticeable, i do notice more the blur of the edges of the voxels.
With 0 its absurd.
So the problem with AO, its AO itself. Neat.
Thx Null
So what's the issue specifically? Could you not find settings you liked?
guessing it's either too grainy from dither, or too blurry?
the issue is the blurriness.
yes exacly
ive found a middle ground after experimenting a little
did you try increasing the sample count? before I added the blur it was 128
should make dithering less noticeable at the cost of perf
the dither and blur are so the samples could be dropped down, which over doubled perf on my end with DH
so its that perfomance heavy
with 128 samples per-pixel, yes; but that's a lot
whats your opinion on this?
here's 6 vs 32 samples; no blur
looks good to me, but I'm less picky with grain/blur
its still 6 samples
32 looks quite good
@Denial VL Less blurriness.
