sport coat fit
Got this sport coat about a year ago (thanks @bigelow_ ). I love the material, but I’m not 100% sure I got the fit right. The shoulders have a bit more padding than I’m used to, and I’m not sure if the way the shoulders fit is a bit too big or just what it is to be expected for this style of jacket. In particular, when I lift my arms up (third pic), you can really see the padding in the shoulder. Is this normal?
Would also love feedback on any other dimensions (body or sleeve length, chest, etc). Happy to provide more photos.

That looks pretty good to me. Much better than a lot of the blazer fit pics I see here. The shoulders don't look particularly padded, nor does it look odd to me when you raise your arm.
I really like the color and texture too
Shoulders look great, you don't have any divots when standing naturally, and those indents will appear when you raise your arm on any tailored jacket. Length is good, though a pic from the back would help (it does look like the hem of the jacket is about halfway between the top of the jacket and the floor, which is a good test)
Sleeve length is a hair long, you'll want to try it with a properly fitting dress shirt and have 1/4 to 1/2" of cuff showing
I'm thinking you might need the sleeves taken in by 1/2" or so
as usual I'll defer to @gimp for more fit feedback
Here’s a photo from the back! I meant to include that
CYA check: ✅
I agree the sleeves are a bit too long
Thanks GSH! Where should the dress shirt land on me lengthwise?
If the jacket sleeves need to be 1/2 inch above that
I'm thinking the shirt sleeve ends should be right around where the jacket sleeve ends are atm
Do you have a well fitting shirt?
the jacket sleeves are even a tad long for where you’d want a shirt sleeve to end, should be right above the wrist break
i.e. if you bend your hands up the sleeve shouldn’t move
I’ll have to check, I’ve never given too much thought to sleeve length fit. I have some OCBDs I’ll try
Sleeves should end above the wrist? Dang that seems shorter than I would have guessed was ideal
not above the wrist bone
above the pivot point if that makes more sense
Ah yeah that doesn’t look as short as I was picturing
only other thing I’d add is that it looks like the back could be let out a touch, lower back specifically
that vent should sit closed when you stand relaxed
if you’re already going to an alterations tailor for the sleeves I’d ask about it but might not be worth the price in the end / risk if it’s not a tailor you know can do it properly
Ok good spot, I’ll ask about this when I get the sleeves done, thanks!
Pretty much everyone's shoulder padding pops up when they lift their arm. To avoid this, you'd need light to no padding, and also a very very high and quite tight armhole, which nobody does. Famously, Fred Astaire would, but he danced and jumped in his suit so he needed it to be fairly unusual.
The jacket fit is pretty good. Shorten the sleeves a bit and you'll be as good as anyone can ask for. (Some minor issues are the vertical fold along your shoulder blades, but that's not a fit issue that can ever be fixed. If it's thrifted, you just accept it and don't ever worry about it)
Shirt sleeve goes down to just past your wrist, where your hand begins to flare out. Normally it'll be just around touching your thumb base where it flares out, or just a little bit less than that. Jacket sleeve is more like 1/4 inch than 1/2 inch shorter than the shirt, you really want to show a hint of shirt cuff, generally.
That a handsome jacket.
The king has spoken. Thanks Gimp!
I don't know dick about shit, heaps of salt with literally anything I say. But you look solid, man. :)
