TF2 tcmalloc fix not working on Steam Deck
As expected TF2 doesn't currently work without the fix with an instant crash on launch but the just command to fix it is returning that I have an incompatible platform thinking I have (linux/386) instead of (linux/amd64)

That error is a red herring because TF2 is 32-bit
Can you post a log from TF2 for me? I'll test this as well
One sec I can grab one for you
Well this is unexpected TF2 launched now, does the fix command still go through even though that error shows up?
does this happen on steamos or no
It does not, Arch doesn't seem to suffer from the issue
try using the steam runtime compatability layer
if not, maybe run it through proton
It seems to be working now normally after trying the command again, I think I was confused by the error the "just fix-tf2-tcmalloc" threw since there is no confirmation
The platform oddity was the only thing it output making me think it wasn't working before
I'm used to Arch so this is my bad, im still trying to figure out fedora and everything, still can't figure out how to install an rpm package on here lol
This is my second install as the first one was all goobered up for some reason while I was blindly flailing through the installer before I knew of that fix and it wasn't working there, it oddly started working here after yesterday
yes
that's what I was trying to say, sorry
error is meaningless, the container should be 32-bit becuase it's building a 32-bit file for tf2
I'll add a message at the end of that just command so the next person doesn't suffer from that 🙂
All good! The reason I thought it wasn't working is because of my screwed up first installation that was all kinda of wack, it didn't work there
Also random side note is rpm not a command on here? I'm trying to install latte dock and that's the fedora versions extension
no can do, this breaks VAC
fyi
It's not, this is immutable fedora
if your command was:
sudo dnf install lattedock
instead run:
rpm-ostree install lattedock
systemctl reboot
Ohhhh that's extremely helpful thank you, I thought that command wasn't meant for managing packages too
np
does steam runtime work?
pretty sure that's used by default
that's what steam-play-none is for
running games w/o the runtime
