looking for a new pair of work boots for my brother
I’m hoping to get cowboy boot style, but here’s my checklist:
Goodyear welt
Full grain leather
Steel toe
Rubber outsole
Block heel
If anyone who wears cowboy work boots has any personal recommendations or realistic suggestions, then feel free. This is just my list from my research I did while at work 😅
I noticed his soles were cracking so I thought I’d look into it. They’re gonna be for working outside. I chose the block heel over a wedge because from what I saw the wedge is better for climbing and he won’t be doing that. He will be more or a terrain kind of thing. And I did rubber over leather outsole because I saw the water resistance is better. And of course the Goodyear, full grain, and steel toe speak for themselves.
As for price, I understand you pay for quality. I’m expecting to pay at least $200, but I can comfortably spend up to $500. Any more and I’ll have to budget for it 😂 but it’s doable. So I’m welcome to all price ranges
Again any advice or recommendations are welcome, thanks!

Sounds like you’re looking for a steel toe roper. What’s your size? I can try and do a quick search to see what I find.
Any redwings fit the bill? You're asking for a fair bit of stuff in one package. A lot of (if not most) work boots are cemented or maybe blake stitched; a lot of goodyear welt boots full of the higher end options are more fashion forward than for work.
I cannot think of any boot that's goodyear welted, full grain, and costs as little as $200, honestly, except some of the truly low end stuff coming out of india and china (and with those, caveat emptor - a lot of those are lying about construction and materials.)
Check out Georgia boots - I think they have a steel toe version of their farm & ranch roper (they may call it a Wellington)

Is there a reason to this? I thought Goodyear was the most solid choice, so why wouldn’t it be in work boots for ease of repair and longevity? Does the stitch not work well with constant pressure?
It is more expensive and time consuming than the alternative (glue).
It sounds like you want something from Whites or Nicks. Nicks has the Palouse Western work boot which checks off all of your wants

iirc you can get a cellastic not steel toe in these as well.
I don't think White's has a western style. These boots from Nick's are a newer offering as well.
It's cheaper to make cemented soles, thus most soles are cemented. This is literally the "work boot theory" thing, where better work boots cost more up front but less over time (up to a point.)
